Actinic Keratoses
What Is Actinic Keratosis? An actinic keratosis (AK) is a rough, persistent, scaly patch that occurs on chronically sun-exposed skin. The color can be red/pink or brown (pigmented AK). It is most commonly found on your face, lips (usually lower lips), rims of your ears, back of your hands, forearms,...
How often should I do a carbon laser facial?
Hi, Typically with any non-invasive, skin rejuvenation procedure, multiple sessions are usually needed to see the best results. Likely, 4-6 sessions spaced out 3-4 weeks apart would be ideal. It is important to continue to wear sunscreen daily and maintain your skin care regimen. I hope this helps! Dr. Vaidya READ MORE
How long does it take to heal from a deep chemical peel?
Hi, While the peeling/swelling may resolve within 1-2 weeks, the redness post-deep chemical peel can last several weeks to a couple of months. It is very important to wear SPF daily, especially post-procedure. I hope this helps. Regards, Dr. Vaidya READ MORE
How do you fade acne scars fast?
Most commonly, patients refer to post-inflammatory pigmentation as "acne scars." This pigmentation usually fades on its own over time. It is important to wear SPF 30+ daily to prevent worsening of pigmentation. There are numerous prescription medications that your doctor can prescribe to help with the appearance of these marks. Furthermore, aesthetic treatments like chemical peels and microneedling may also be useful in this scenario. Please make an appointment with your board-certified dermatologist for a treatment plan. Pimple marks removal?
Hi, These red pimple marks are called post-inflammatory erythema. They will gradually fade over time. Make sure to use sunscreen daily. Also, a topical prescription regimen to control the acne and the inflammation in the skin will be helpful. You can also add vitamin C/E to your daily skincare regimen. Please see your board-certified dermatologist for evaluation and for a treatment plan. Regards, Darshan Vaidya, MD, FAAD Aura Dermatology (Robbinsville/Somerset, NJ) READ MORE
How do you treat hyperpigmentation from acne?
Hyperpigmentation from acne generally is post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation and has a tendency to fade over time. I strongly emphasize daily use of sunscreen to prevent darkening of this pigmentation even with casual sun exposure. Also, there are various prescription creams that can be used to help control acne that will also help fade pigmentation. Last, chemical peels or laser treatments can also be done to help with pigmentation if you are very bothered by it. I hope this helps! Please see your board certified dermatologist for treatment options! Regards, Darshan Vaidya, MD, FAAD READ MORE
Seborrheic dermatitis face product?
For seborrheic dermatitis, it is prevalent in oily skin areas and hypothesized to be caused by a yeast that lives on our skin. Using Nizoral 1% or other dandruff shampoos OTC even as a wash for affected areas of the forehead 3-4 times per week will help. If you need a prescription, please see your board-certified dermatologist for assessment and treatment. Darshan Vaidya, MD, FAAD READ MORE
How do you get rid of deep acne scars?
Deep acne scars are very difficult to treat. Likely they will require multiple treatments that can range from microneedling, TCA CROSS, punch excision of very deep scars, or laser resurfacing. Different scars (depth, width, etc.) will respond best to different modalities and therefore a combination approach will likely be necessary. It is important that you see your board-certified dermatologist for evaluation of the types of scars you have and for a treatment recommendation. Thank you. Darshan Vaidya, MD, FAAD READ MORE
How to treat skin blisters?
There are many different reasons for blister formation, so treatment depends on the underlying cause. If the blister is not due to a fungal infection, a topical antifungal cream would not work. Please see your dermatologist for evaluation and treatment. Darshan Vaidya, MD READ MORE
How to treat ringworm?
First and foremost, it is crucial to make sure you are indeed suffering from ringworm and not some other rash that is mimicking its appearance. Ringworm usually does not cause pain, as you are describing. The choice of topical (or oral) treatments relies on an accurate diagnosis. Please make sure you see a board-certified dermatologist for further evaluation and treatment. READ MORE

Does oily skin cause blackheads?
Oily scan does not "cause" acne, but can certainly contribute to acne. For example, there are people that have oily skin complexion but do not have acne. Acne is caused by the interplay between bacteria that lives in the hair follicle, sebum (oily skin), hyperkeratosis (loose skin cells that clog pores), and inflammation with factors such as genetics, hormonal factors, and diet as overlying factors. There are various treatments for acne aimed to target the various etiologies. Please visit your board certified dermatologist for treatment consideration. Thank you. Dr. Vaidya READ MORE

Can acne be cured completely?
Acne is a condition that can be managed, not necessarily “cured.” Many patients who take a course of isotretinoin (accutane), may see long-term permanent clearance of their acne, but we still don’t call it a “cure” because there is always a chance it can recur. We have lots of different topical and oral medications we can use in combination with aesthetic treatment to help your skin look and feel great! READ MORE
