  • How long does it take for inflamed gums to heal?

When gums hurt, it's usually due to either chronic or acute infection. It is extremely important to visit your dentist to resolve the issue, otherwise both conditions may result in complete or partial tooth loss. Chronic gum infections can temporarily improve by brushing and flossing twice a day for at least two weeks. Acute infections can temporarily resolve by antibiotics after a couple of days. READ MORE

  • Do fillings hurt without an injection?

If the cavity is inside your dentin more than likely drilling it out will be very uncomfortable. If it is only in the enamel, it may not be painful. It all depends on what tooth it is, how young/old you are, the size of the cavity and proximity to the pulp, and your pain tolerance. Typically the younger you are, the larger the pulp, ( where the nerve is) therefore more possibility if discomfort. Most dentists do not accept to perform fillings that require a lot of drilling without injections as it can be very risky and dangerous! Any sudden movement by the patient due to pain can cause trauma/ damages to the adjacent tissues such as a tooth, the tongue and even the lips. I personally have done that and drilled a tooth for a patient without anesthetics and surprisingly he did very well! But I can't recommend that to anyone based on just one case, as pain tolerance varies between patients. READ MORE

  • Why is my old root canal hurting?

Many reasons, depending on when it was done and what kind of restoration the tooth has. Sometimes root canaled teeth get decayed under a crown or at the margins of the crowns. That causes the bacteria to travel to the canals and cause a recurrent infection. Sometimes severe gum disease causes an infection in the canals. It may also be a failed filling or a fracture. Sometimes it's due to the bite being imbalanced. Seeing a dentist is important because an early intervention can save the tooth. READ MORE
