Throughout her academic career, Dr. Nelson earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from The University of Texas at Arlington, where she graduated magna cum laude in the top 2% of her graduating class in 2006. She then went on to complete her post-baccalaureate studies in medicine at Drexel University College of Medicine in 2007, and graduated with her medical degree from The University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston in 2011. She completed her residency in emergency medicine at Baylor College of Medicine / Ben Taub General Hospital in 2014, and her fellowship in emergency medicine administration at Baylor Medical Center of Garland with EmCare in 2016. 

Before long, she attained board certification in emergency medicine through the American Board of Emergency Medicine (ABEM). The ABEM certifies emergency physicians who meet its educational, professional, and examination standards.

Advancing her efforts, Dr. Nelson is a member of the American College of Emergency Physicians and the Texas College of Emergency Physicians. She also holds certifications in Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS).

Emergency medicine, also known as accident and emergency medicine, is the medical specialty concerned with the care of illnesses or injuries requiring immediate medical attention. An emergency physician is a physician who works at an emergency department to care for acutely ill or injured patients. They care for unscheduled and undifferentiated patients of all ages.
