Get to know Family Physician Dr. Bradley W. Nordyke, who serves patients in Brownsville, Texas.

Dr. Nordyke is a family physician based in Brownsville, Texas, offering medical care to patients of all ages, including pregnant women and infants. His remarkable journey began with service in the US Navy, which sponsored his medical education. 

During his tenure as the Senior Flight Surgeon at Naval Air Station Guam, Dr. Nordyke assumed a pivotal role in running the flight line clinic, overseeing a team of 14 staff members, as well as managing X-ray, lab, pharmacy, a small emergency room, and ambulance services. Additionally, he played a crucial role in medical support during emergency evacuations from ships at sea and local islands during Search and Rescue missions.

His exceptional contributions were duly recognized during his first two years in Guam, earning him the prestigious Flight Surgeon of the Year Pacific Fleet 1992 award, along with Navy Commendation and Navy Achievement Medals (two awards). Dr. Nordyke also served as a Pediatric Advanced Life Support Instructor and received a Humanitarian Medal for his efforts during Hurricane Hugo while interning at Naval Hospital Charleston. He extended his service beyond his obligation, responding to the request of VQ-5, a carrier-based jet squadron stationed in Guam, to be their flight surgeon.

Post his Navy service, Dr. Nordyke worked alongside a pediatrician in Brownsville for two years before establishing his own practice, which he successfully managed for 25 years. Later, when he decided to retire and sell his practice, he was sought after to contribute his expertise at the Brownsville Community Health Center, primarily serving indigent populations. Currently, he dedicates half of his time to this role and derives immense satisfaction from his work in this setting.

A 1989 graduate of the University of South Dakota School of Medicine, Dr. Nordyke possesses medical licenses permitting practice in the states of Texas, Hawaii, Iowa, and North Carolina.

Among his professional affiliations, he is an active member of the Texas Medical Association and the American Medical Association.

Family medicine is a medical specialty devoted to comprehensive health care for people of all ages. The specialist is called a family physician or family doctor. A family physician is often the first person a patient sees when seeking healthcare services. They examine and treat patients with a wide range of conditions and refer those with serious ailments to a specialist or appropriate facility. 

Actively engaged in charitable and philanthropic efforts within his community, Dr. Nordyke generously donates to local churches, supports Head Start programs, and contributes to schools. Moreover, he extends his educational impact by delivering lectures at schools. A heartwarming tradition of his includes providing annual Christmas gifts to the local population near his office and continuing this practice at the Brownsville Community Health Center.

Dr. Nordyke attributes his success to a combination of hard work, moments of serendipity, and the invaluable support of his dedicated ancillary staff. His medical assistants and his wife, who served as his office manager, have played pivotal roles in his journey. Equally significant are the patients who placed their trust in him, enabling him to fulfill his role as their physician.

His ideal vacation destination is one that encompasses elements of natural beauty and historical significance. He finds solace in locations adorned with lush trees, scenic oceans, and a rich history.

Wrestling holds a special place in Dr. Nordyke’s heart, reflecting his passion for the sport. Additionally, he has a creative side, crafting handmade pewter figures from scratch, and he occasionally adds a personal touch by painting some of these intricate pieces.
