Food getting stuck behind wisdom teeth
if you have developed a flap.....AND....the wizzie is NOT impacted....you have 2 choices....remove the tooth....or have the flap removed/reduced surgically....IF it is a functioning tooth ( ie chews with an upper tooth )....save it...its always good to have an extra tooth....the surgery is NOT extensive, done with local anes and recovery should NOT be bad.... Why do some dentists hurt during cleanings more than others?
Sounds like your home care is NOT good...some recession is normal with age and THEN the root surface of the tooth is exposed. The root surface has nerve endings present ON the surface and thorough cleaning CAN stimulate them. The bleeding indicates poor (tsk tsk) home care OR some underlying health issue (NOT likely). Get the deep cleaning done, start better home care, use Sensodyne for the sensitive root surface and see the hygienist or dentist more frequently. READ MORE
Is it bad if a piece of an old filling falls out?
No, not ok...the filling came out MOST LIKELY due to decay under the old fill...get an X-ray...get a new fill or crown done...wait too long and a root canal WILL be neccesary. READ MORE
Can a gum infection pass to other parts of the body?
The way to deal with the possibility is to NOT have gum problems in the 1st place...see the dentist...get evaluated and treated....and do better home care....id-ing the bodily infections can only be done once the oral disease progresses....why wait?? READ MORE
Do I have to be numb?
Varies on the problem being treated, the depth of the cavity, how the dentist works and your pain tolerance... try it without and see....painful?? Get a shot. READ MORE
What are the most visible signs and symptoms of a gum disease?
Bleeding on brushing or flossing...non pink gum tissue,purplish is bad...bad breath...loose gum tissue at the gum line.... Bleeding is the primary symptom. READ MORE

Having an abscessed tooth? What could this mean?
A tooth abscess is a dangerous thing and can cause related health issues... an abscessed tooth may exhibit swelling, pain, odor on flossing the area. Wait too long and the tooth may not be savable. Root canal treatment MAY remove the infection, but in later cases the root canal treatment may not work, then extraction is the only treatment. READ MORE

See a Periodontist for an evaluation... patients with diabetes are at higher risk for bad gums, infections and tooth loss. READ MORE
