Get to know Clinical Health Psychologist, Dr. Debra Archuleta, who serves patients in San Antonio, Texas.

Being an exceptional psychologist, Dr. Archuleta is a Licensed Clinical Psychologist with specialized training in clinical health interventions, trauma treatment, and coping strategies for individuals facing various medical challenges. Her expertise extends to pain management, coping with chronic disease, and trauma exposure treatments. She holds a certification in Geropsychology, demonstrating her commitment to the comprehensive care of older adults.

Her clinical focus revolves around aiding individuals in coping with and managing newly diagnosed and chronic medical conditions. This includes a broad spectrum of health issues such as transplant-related concerns, sleep disorders, weight management, diabetes, burn injuries, and traumatic amputations. Her specialization also encompasses geropsychology, emphasizing her proficiency in addressing the unique mental health needs of older adults.

Before embarking on her professional journey, Dr. Archuleta earned her Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Counseling Psychology from Texas A&M University. Her commitment to mental health further led her to attain a Master of Arts (MA) in Mental Health and Community Counseling from St. Mary’s University, preceded by a Bachelor of Science in Psychology from Texas A&M University, College Station. 

Her dedication to advancing her skills and knowledge is evident in her completion of a two-year fellowship in clinical health psychology at Brooke Army Medical Center (BAMC) and with a specialization in trauma at the United States Army Institute for Surgical Research in 2009. Following her fellowship, she served as a civilian psychologist with the United States Army, making significant contributions to the mental well-being of military personnel. Her professional journey also includes experiences at the Michael E. DeBakey VA Medical Center and the Audie L. Murphy VA Hospital.

Psychologists assess, diagnose, and treat the psychological problems and behavioral dysfunctions resulting from, or related to, physical and mental health. In addition, they play a major role in the promotion of healthy behavior, preventing diseases and improving patients’ quality of life.
