Dr. Lucas is an experienced vascular surgeon who has been recognized as a Top Doc by Baltimore magazine numerous times. He serves as the Director of The Vascular Center at Mercy in Baltimore, Maryland, as well as the Chief of its Division of Vascular Surgery. 

As such, he leads a team of vascular surgeons and technologists who specialize in the diagnosis and treatment of patients with diseased blood vessels. His patients admire his attentive and caring professionalism and he is noted for taking the time to be sure they understand their condition and treatment options.

Continuously seeking advanced diagnostic and treatment options for more efficient care, Dr. Lucas utilizes the latest technologies to care for patients experiencing vascular disorders. He specializes in Venefit™ (formerly known as VNUS Closure™) and Veingogh procedures for varicose vein removal.

Being a Registered Physician in Vascular Interpretation (RPVI), he was instrumental in the establishment of Mercy’s nationally accredited Vascular Laboratory at The Vascular Center at Mercy. In his current capacity, he is affiliated with Mercy Downtown – McAuley Plaza, Mercy Personal Physicians at Lutherville, and Mercy Personal Physicians at Overlea, and the Vein and Vascular Institute of Central Maryland in Lutherville.  

Throughout his academic career, Dr. Lucas earned his medical degree from the Ross University School of Medicine in 1995. He then went on to complete his residency in general surgery at Union Memorial Hospital, followed by his fellowship at the University of Maryland and Mercy Medical Center.

With an unwavering commitment to his specialty, Dr. Lucas is board-certified in Vascular Surgery by the American Board of Surgery, an independent, non-profit organization located in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, founded for the purpose of certifying surgeons who have met a defined standard of education, training, and knowledge. In addition to being a Fellow American College of Surgeons (FACS), he is a member of the Maryland State Medical Society and the Society of Vascular Surgery. 

Vascular surgery is a surgical subspecialty in which diseases of the vascular system, including the arteries, veins, and lymphatic circulation, are managed by medical therapy, minimally-invasive catheter procedures, and surgical reconstruction. A vascular surgeon diagnoses, treats, and manages conditions in the arteries and veins, also called the blood vessels. These specialists treat a range of health problems, from spider and varicose veins to life-threatening aneurysms, and can help patients manage chronic conditions throughout their lives.
