Dr. Goodman is a vascular and cardiovascular surgeon who is currently serving patients at his own private practice – Allan H. Goodman, MD, Inc – in El Cajon, California. He is also affiliated with the Sharp Community Medical Group, which is the largest group of physicians in private practice in San Diego. With a network of over 800 primary care and specialty physicians working in 350 locations in San Diego County, the physicians represent over 30 specialty areas and admit to 10 local hospitals, including all Sharp HealthCare, Palomar Health and Rady Children’s hospitals. Dr. Goodman received his medical degree from the Stanford University School of Medicine in 1961. He then went on to complete his residency, internship, and fellowship at the University of Chicago.

Dr. Goodman is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, often listed as FACS, is a post-nominal title used to indicate that the surgeon’s education and training, professional qualifications, surgical competence, and ethical conduct have passed a rigorous evaluation, and have been found to be consistent with the high standards established and demanded by said College.

Dr. Goodman is board-certified in surgery by the American Board of Surgery (ABS). The ABS y is an independent, nonprofit organization founded in 1937 to provide board certification to individuals who have met a defined standard of education, training and knowledge in the field of surgery. Board certification by the ABS is a voluntary process that demonstrates a surgeon’s commitment to professionalism, lifelong learning, and quality patient care.

Dr. Goodman is also board-certified in thoracic surgery by the American Board of Thoracic Surgery (ABTS). The ABTS is an American surgical organization devoted to surgery of the chest. The mission of the ABTS is to promote excellence in practice through rigorous evaluation and examination, to provide leadership in education, as well as to ensure high standards for professionalism, lifelong learning, and certification.

Vascular surgery is a surgical subspecialty in which diseases of the vascular system, or arteries, veins and lymphatic circulation, are managed by medical therapy, minimally-invasive catheter procedures, and surgical reconstruction. Cardiothoracic surgery (also known as thoracic surgery) is the field of medicine involved in surgical treatment of organs inside the thorax (the chest)—generally treatment of conditions of the heart (heart disease) and lungs (lung disease). As a vascular and cardiovascular surgeon, one of Dr. Goodman’s areas of expertise is lung cancer.
