Born in Ravenna, Ohio, Dr. Ebbert attended Ravenna Township School before graduating from Ravenna High School in 1961. His early education was marked by active participation in marching and jazz bands, student council, and the National Honor Society. He continued his academic pursuits at Kent State University, graduating in 1965, and later earned his Medical Degree from The Ohio State University College of Medicine, graduating cum laude in 1969.
Following his graduation, Dr. Ebbert completed his internship and residency in internal medicine at the University of Missouri before further specializing in hematology and oncology through a fellowship at Duke University Hospital from 1971 to 1973. His career took a noble turn when he spent two years with the Public Health Service in Seattle, where he also joined the faculty of the University of Washington.
In 1975, Dr. Ebbert made history by becoming the first oncologist to practice in South Dakota, establishing a legacy of care that has continued to grow over the years. He has held numerous prestigious roles, including Chief of Staff at the Rapid City Medical Center and principal investigator for the Rapid City Regional Oncology Group. Additionally, Dr. Ebbert is an active member of the North Central Cancer Treatment Group, a national research organization based at the Mayo Clinic, and serves as a Clinical Associate Professor at the South Dakota School of Medicine.
Triple board certified in internal medicine, hematology, and medical oncology, Dr. Ebbert is recognized as a Diplomate of the American Board of Internal Medicine. His contributions to the field are further evidenced by his active memberships in the American College of Physicians and the American Society of Internal Medicine, along with numerous publications in esteemed professional journals.
Outside of his professional life, Dr. Ebbert lives in Piedmont with his stepson Ben and his family. His enduring dedication to patient care and medical education continues to inspire future generations of healthcare professionals.
