Dr. Azadeh Shirazi, MD is a board-certified dermatologist specializing in medical, surgical, and cosmetic dermatology. She received her undergraduate and medical degrees from the University Of Kentucky College of Medicine. She then went on to do a Research Fellowship at Harvard Medical School at the Wellman Center for Photomedicine. Her research involved investigating the effects of light and laser therapies on human biology. Dr. Shirazi specifically focused on innovative ways of using various wavelengths of light in the reduction of inflammation. She worked closely with Dr. Hamblin at the Harvard Medical School looking at new diagnostic and therapeutic uses of laser energy in wound healing, cancer cells, and atherosclerotic plaques. Dr. Shirazi completed her residency training in Dermatology and Cutaneous Surgery at the prestigious Mayo Clinic in addition to completing her training in dermatology and cosmetic surgery at the University of California San Diego. She has received multiple research scholarships from iconic institutions including Harvard University and the University Of Texas Southwestern Medical Center and has several peer-reviewed publications to her name. She values the doctor-patient relationship and strives to provide the best personalized dermatological care to all of her patients. Over her extensive career of 10 years on faculty at Scripps Clinic, she has trained other doctors in dermatology and skin surgery as well as helped scores of patients attain natural-looking, flawless skin through treatments designed to fit their exact lifestyles. As a skin cancer specialist, she has helped thousands of patients successfully treat their skin cancers and improve the health of their skin. Dr. Shirazi is regularly invited to speak at national and international cosmetic and medical dermatology conferences, such as the Global Aesthetic Conference, American Society of Dermatologic Surgeons Conference, and the World Congress of Dermatology Summit in Argentina. She lectures on her various research findings and teaches other physicians her unique expert technique. Cosmetic dermatology and aesthetic surgery have always been Dr. Shiraziâ??s calling; and itâ??s no surprise that she specialized in this field of medicine. Science and math were always her academic strengths, but she was also always drawn to art and fashion. Growing up she enjoyed painting and pottery, and today she has grown to appreciate the arts even more. Whether she is designing and suturing a skin reconstruction, sculpting the face with injectables, or reshaping a scar with a laser beam, she continuously incorporates her skill and knowledge with her artistic vision and talent. She embodies a strong passion for dermatology and truly enjoys the art of aesthetics every day. â??I look at fashion, makeup, and cosmetic surgery as an art - you might call it decorative or applied art rather than fine art, but itâ??s the artistic expression that brings value to that piece thatâ??s being created.â? Azadeh Shirazi, MD, FAAD.
