Adult tooth is loose. What should I do?
You should see a dentist right away! sometimes, we can save a loose tooth. It depends whether it is fractured, how much bone loss and mobility. Sometimes, splinting would be sufficient. It may require root canal. Doing nothing may result in more pain, swelling, infection, tooth loss and more expense. Thanks, READ MORE
What can I expect after oral surgery?
It depends on upper or lower teeth, front or back, whether you are having bone grafting, whether you smoke and your doctor's experience. Expect about a week of recovery. You don't have to stay home all week but may have to take some form of pain medication and soft diet. Good Luck. Mehran Mehrabi, DMD MD READ MORE
Risk of nerve damage during impacted wisdom tooth surgery?
Well, just like anything in life, "it depends". To answer your question, risks for extraction of third molars are pain, bleeding, infection, damage to adjacent teeth, dry socket, sinus infection or nerve damage. Other rare complications are TMJ problems, jaw fracture, jaw infection however quite rare. The prevalence of risk depends on the location of the tooth (upper vs. lower), level of impaction, proximity to sinus or nerve, patient's age, patient's medical history and operative's experience. Hope that helps. READ MORE
Wisdom teeth pain after they're gone
Pain at the site of third molars (wisdom teeth) 5 years after extraction is unusual. Typically if there is infection or nerve injury, pain would occur sooner and more persistently. Why can there be pain now? I would recommend to see a local dentist or oral surgeon to rule out a few serious but rare concerns. This could be secondary a pathological growth in the jaw bone where you had third molars, a referred pain from TMJ disorder, a referred pain from other teeth in the mouth that are infected. Other causes of pain are atypical pain with long names which would require more history and examination to evaluate. Bottom line, see your dentist. I might be nothing but let's be sure.
