Get to know Allergist and Immunologist Dr. Sara Axelrod, who serves patients in East Brunswick, New Jersey.

Dr. Axelrod, a reputable allergist and immunologist, is trained to treat each patient’s sensitivity and response to allergens of varying severity. She sees adult and pediatric patients in need of her expertise at ENT and Allergy Associates, LLP in East Brunswick, New Jersey.

Working together as a team to provide faster diagnosis and comprehensive treatment, ENT and Allergy Associates, LLP has over 220 physicians practicing in 46 office locations in New York and New Jersey. Each clinical location provides access to a full complement of services, including general adult and pediatric ENT and allergy, voice and swallowing, facial plastics and reconstructive surgery, disorders of the inner ear and dizziness, asthma, allergy, clinical immunology, diagnostic audiology, hearing aid dispensing, as well as sleep and CT services. The allergists work hand-in-hand with the ENT specialists to provide patients with the most comprehensive, state-of-the-art medical care. 

Locally, Dr. Axelrod is affiliated with St. Peter’s University Hospital, Jersey Shore University Medical Center, and Community Medical Center.

Her professional associations, memberships and accolades are equally wide-ranging. She has either been, or currently is, a member of the ACAAI/AAAAI, the UMDNJ Nominating Committee, the American College of Physicians, the American Public Health Association, and the Beaumont Research Society. In addition, she has been extensively published in journals including the JACI, The Annals of Allergy, Asthma, and Immunology & the Mount Sinai Journal of Medicine, and has authored a chapter in Challenging Cases in Allergy and Immunology as well as Atopic Dermatitis.

Pertaining to her educational background, Dr. Axelrod completed her undergraduate studies at the University of Michigan, where she also earned her Master of Public Health degree with a focus on Genetic Epidemiology. She then received her medical degree from the George Washington University School of Medicine and Health Science, served her clinical residency at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey, and completed her fellowship training in allergy and clinical immunology at Winthrop University Hospital.

Demonstrating expertise in all areas of her speciality, the doctor is board-certified in allergy and immunology by the American Board of Allergy and Immunology (ABAI). The mission of the ABAI is to improve the quality of medical care by the development and utilization of professional and educational standards for the initial certification and maintenance of certification of physician specialists in allergy and immunology.

Furthermore, she is board-certified in internal medicine by the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM). The ABIM is a physician-led, non-profit, independent evaluation organization driven by doctors who want to achieve higher standards for better care in a rapidly changing world.

Allergy and immunology involve the management of disorders related to the immune system. These conditions range from the very common to the very rare, spanning all ages and encompassing various organ systems. An allergist / immunologist is a physician specially trained to diagnose, treat, and manage allergies, asthma, and immunologic disorders, including primary immunodeficiency disorders.

Over the years, Dr. Axelrod has served at the National Institutes of Health-National Cancer Institute, the National Academy of Science, and the Henry Ford Health System. She has also volunteered at the Disaster Relief Initiative in Belize, Central America. 

On a more personal note, she resides in nearby Monmouth County with her husband and two sons. As the mother of a child who suffers from food allergies, she is well aware of the similar challenges faced by so many of her patients, both adult and pediatric.
