  • I just got a crown fit on my teeth but it hurts a lot. Does it require re-treatment?

It most likely needs to be adjusted. Many dentists place crowns without bothering to check the bite carefully. You should return to your dentist and make sure that your crown and bite feels perfect before leaving the office. READ MORE

  • How can flossing help in maintaining the health of teeth and gums?

Flossing should be done at least once or twice a day. Your toothbrush cannot remove the material in the contact area between the teeth. Only floss can break up the bacteria that form there. Brushing cannot reach these areas and that is why floss is important. It can go a long way to stop inter proximal decay. READ MORE

  • What is the best way to treat dental plaque?

The hard material that forms on your teeth is called calculus. It can only be removed professionally at a dental office. This material cannot be flossed or brushed off. Once it is removed, brushing and flossing help maintain the health of the gums. You should then have your teeth cleaned at a dental office twice a year. Prolonged time spans between cleaning can lead to gingivitis and periodontal disease, which later leads to tooth loss. READ MORE

  • Rash in the mouth

That area needs to be biopsied at an oral surgeon's office at once. The appearance of this area has a high tendency to be a cancerous lesion. Do not delay getting this area evaluated with a biopsy ASAP. READ MORE

  • Can using mouthwash frequently negatively impact the health of my teeth?

Mouthwashes are generally useless and a waste of money. Many contain alcohol, which is not good for the oral mucosa. If your breath is bad, it most likely means that you may be overdue for a cleaning. READ MORE

  • My mother lost all of her teeth. What can be done?

Since humans are not able to grow another set of permanent teeth, there are no other options but dentures or implant supported bridgework. Dentures would run about $300 to $4000 and implant supported bridgework for the whole mouth would run about $40,000 READ MORE

  • How many times should I floss?

Flossing twice a day is fine. Most of the population does not floss at all. If you can get floss between your teeth once a day, you are doing more for your dental health than most of the population. Flossing twice a day or even three times a day will not harm your teeth. READ MORE

  • What is gingivitis and its risk factors?

Brushing your teeth twice daily, using dental floss, and seeing your dentist every six months in most cases will prevent gingivitis. Some gingivitis can be caused by medications, but these cases are not as common. Salt water mouth rinses and hydrogen peroxide diluted 1:1 as a rinse are good for inflamed gums. Other store bought mouthwashes are overrated and essentially useless. Gingivitis is first noted by puffy, bleeding gums, gums that bleed when you brush and sometimes a bad taste in your mouth. • Do I have to be numb?

Pain is a relative thing. The deeper the filling, the closer to the nerve, the more likely that there will be discomfort. Everyone is different. Some don't, mind most do. It also has something to do with the skill and touch of the dentist. A good dentist can also administer a painless local anesthetic that won't hurt and assure no pain in the entire process. • How effective is clove oil to reduce tooth pain?

Clove oil can temporarily ease the pain of a toothache, but if you have swelling, you have an infected tooth that needs treatment. Constant pain in a tooth indicates that you need to get to a dentist ASAP. With dentistry, it only gets worse and it always gets more expensive the longer that you wait. READ MORE
