What is the best surgery for a hiatal hernia?
This depends on the size of the hiatal hernia. Also, the surgery has to be tailored if you have GERD as well. A hiatal hernia is an actual defect in your diaphragm or breathing muscle where the esophagus exits the thoracic cavity or chest cavity to connect to the stomach in the abdominal cavity. Some hiatal hernias if they are small can be repaired with just suture. If the hernia is bigger a mesh may have to be used. The mesh can either be synthetic or biologic. What foods should I avoid if I have a hernia?
Avoid foods that may cause constipation. Constipation increases abdominal pressure which can cause hernias. Always good to have vegetables and fruits in your diet. Take care. READ MORE
How long does it take to get well after colon surgery?
This is all dependent on what type of colon surgery you have. Most colon surgeries are completed laparoscopically patient recovery is much faster. Some of my patients have gone home as early as a day or two. Full recovery with regards to being pain-free usually takes about 4 weeks with reasonably good bowel function. READ MORE
Can external hemorrhoids be removed without surgery?
Once you have hemorrhoids, they can symptomatically be decreased by avoiding constipation, prolonged sitting. Take stool softeners as needed. Warm sitz baths at least twice a day. READ MORE
Can I eat normal food after gallbladder surgery?
After gallbladder surgery, you may become intolerant to certain foods. The most common food intolerance associated is dairy. Other foods that may cause intolerance may include fatty foods and greasy foods. It would be advisable to keep a log of what foods to avoid. READ MORE
Is a vasectomy painful?
Most vasectomies can be done under local anesthesia. Post-procedure pain can usually be managed with Tylenol or ibuprofen and considerably better within 48 hours. READ MORE
Is colonoscopy done under anesthesia?

Bleeding/loss of blood?
The first thing that has to happen is for her to be honest with herself. If information is hidden from a physician, then it’s hard for us to order the necessary tests to figure out what the problem is. What kind of anesthesia is done for a gastroscopy?

Fellowship Trained in Minimally Invasive Surgery
A highly skilled Laparoscopic Surgeon, with over two decades of experience, Dr. Gabriel serves patients in Northern California. Currently, he performs minimally invasive procedures and is trained in robotic surgery for weight loss procedures, gallbladder disease, hernia, appendix, gastroesophageal reflux disease, disorders of the stomach small bowel and colon disorders, disease of the spleen, pancreas, adrenal glands and kidneys. He is noted for and is one of the most elite in the country doing multiple organ procedures for chronic abdominal pain usually through just three laparoscopic incisions.
As a general surgeon, he also performs other procedures including but not limited to biopsies, excisions or resections for tumors of the skin, body and breasts.
When he is not performing major surgical procedures, he is trained and certified to perform injectable cosmetic procedures, and other aesthetic procedures including facial dermal abrasions, and laser liposuction.
Formerly from the greater New York area, he was one of the first surgeons in the country to perform Lap Band surgery. He performs all weight loss procedures including gastric plication, lap band with plication, sleeve gastrectomy, gastric bypass, and revisions.
Dr. Gabriel graduated with his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree from the New York College of Osteopathic Medicine. He completed his residency training in general surgery at the Weill College Cornell University in Brooklyn, and afterwards a fellowship in advanced laparoscopic surgery at Yale University School of Medicine.
An authority in his field, he is board-certified in general surgery by the American Osteopathic Board of Surgery, which he served as a Board member and Chair of the General Surgery discipline for many years. He has had past appointments as director of General Surgery residency programs. With his love for education and teaching, he has taught surgeons nationally and internationally. Some of his international work was medical mission based.
He is a Fellow of the American College of Osteopathic Surgeons (FACOS), and Fellow of the American College of Surgeons (FACS). He served as Director of Minimally Invasive Surgery and Bariatric Surgery at various hospitals in New York and has appeared on the Discovery Health Channel, CNN “Anderson Cooper 360”, and ABC Eyewitness News. He has also been featured in Newsweek, as well as other newspapers and magazines for “first of its kind” laparoscopic procedures in various institutions.
