Get to know Obstetrician-Gynecologist & Infertility Specialist Dr. M. Mercedes Gondra, who serves patients in Phoenix, Arizona.

Dr. Gondra is a board-certified obstetrician-gynecologist & infertility specialist who believes in full and comprehensive fertility care. She has a great deal of successful experience in complicated infertility cases and reproductive surgery.

Her prior experience as a general surgeon provides her with the additional capability and expertise to preserve the reproductive organs to accomplish a pregnancy and to treat symptomatic conditions that can impair the quality of life without having to have a hysterectomy.

Due to her own history of infertility issues, she understands the emotional struggles involved and her priority is to be emotionally supportive to her patients.

“I love helping people to accomplish their dreams of having a family. I try to offer as a doctor, what I would like to have as a patient. I believe in compassion and empathy. I love my profession and helping people any way I can” as stated by Dr. Gondra.

Originally from Argentina, she earned her medical degree as a general surgeon from the University of Buenos Aires. In 2001, frustrated with the socioeconomic situation in Argentina, she moved to the United States. It took her 4 years to learn English and validate her medical degree in the United States.

At the time of choosing a residency, she opted for women’s care. She did her residency in obstetrics & gynecology at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, where she fell in love with infertility and minimally invasive gynecological surgery and joined the team of Heartland Center for Reproductive Medicine. There, she received excellent training in infertility and reproductive endocrinology.

In 2011, due to her love of the outdoors and her passion for cycling, Dr. Gondra decided to move to Phoenix, Arizona, where after a few years she started her own practice, Gondra Center for Reproductive Care & Advanced Gynecology.

Among her other roles, she can be found on staff at Honor Health Scottsdale Shea  Medical Center.

Passionate about her profession, Dr. Gondra is board-certified in obstetrics & gynecology by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology (ABOG). The mission of the ABOG is to define specialty standards, certify obstetricians and gynecologists, and facilitate continuous learning to advance knowledge, practice, and professionalism in women’s health.

In order to stay up to date in her field, she maintains membership status with the American Society for Reproductive Medicine, the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (Fellow), and the AAGL Advanced Minimally Invasive Gynecology Worldwide.

Obstetrics and gynecology (OB-GYN) is the medical specialty that encompasses the two subspecialties of obstetrics (covering pregnancy, childbirth, and the postpartum period) and gynecology (covering the health of the female reproductive system – vagina, uterus, ovaries, and breasts).

Reproductive endocrinology and infertility (REI) is a surgical subspecialty of obstetrics and gynecology that trains physicians in reproductive medicine addressing hormonal functioning as it pertains to the reproduction, as well as the issue of infertility. An infertility specialist also referred to as a reproductive endocrinologist (RE), is an expert in the field of infertility.

Among her most notable achievements, Dr. Gondra has been the recipient of the Best Teaching Resident Award (2008), Best Laparoscopic Resident Award (2008), Patients’ Choice Award (2016, 2015, 2014), Compassionate Doctor Recognition (2016, 2015, 2014), and On-Time Doctor Award (2016, 2015).
