Get to know Nephrologist Dr. Shazia Khan, who serves patients in Georgia.

A specialist in the field of nephrology, Dr. Khan is in practice with Kidney Clinic, seeing patients at the offices in Newnan and Peachtree City, Georgia. She prides herself on providing compassionate and personalized care for patients with chronic kidney disease and hypertension.

Established in 2002, Kidney Clinic is recognized as a leader in kidney care for the south metro Atlanta area. The practice offers a range of clinical services including hospital consultations, office consultations, and dialysis care. It also offers education, planning, and management of renal replacement therapies. The offices are conveniently located in Coweta and Fayette county and offer expert care in the area of chronic kidney disease, hypertension, electrolyte disorders, and acute renal disease.  

Having been practicing medicine for over 20 years, Dr. Khan is affiliated with Piedmont Newnan Hospital, Piedmont Fayette Hospital, and Encompass Health Rehabilitation Hospital of Newnan. She is the Medical Director of three dialysis centers.

Among her professional affiliations, she is a member of the American Medical Association, The National Kidney Foundation, the American Society of Nephrology, the Leadership Council for Piedmont Newnan Council, the Credentialing Committee for Piedmont Newnan Hospital (Chairperson), and the Female Physician Forum.

Academically, Dr. Khan graduated from the Fatima Jinnah Medical College for Women, University of Punjab in Lahore, Pakistan in 1988. Upon relocating to the United States, she performed her internship and residency in internal medicine at Veteran Affairs Medical Center, followed by her fellowship in nephrology at MedStar Washington Hospital Center.

An expert in her field, she is board-certified in nephrology by the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM). The ABIM is a physician-led, non-profit, independent evaluation organization driven by doctors who want to achieve higher standards for better care in a rapidly changing world. 

Nephrology is a specialty of medicine and pediatrics that concerns itself with the kidneys. It is the study of normal kidney function and kidney disease, the preservation of kidney health, and the treatment of kidney disease, from diet and medication to renal replacement therapy. Nephrologists have advanced training in treating kidney disease. They diagnose and treat kidney failure, as well as help patients by prescribing medications, offering special diet advice, and coordinating dialysis care or kidney transplantation when it becomes necessary.
