Born and raised in Honolulu, where her family has lived for three generations, Dr. Fong graduated from Punahou High School with honors. She then went on to receive her bachelor’s degree from the University of Pennsylvania, graduating Summa Cum Laude and Phi Beta Kappa. She returned home to attend medical school at the University of Hawaii John A. Burns School of Medicine and completed her residency in ophthalmology at the prestigious Georgetown/Medstar Washington Hospital Center. She then finished a highly competitive fellowship in oculoplastics at the University of Texas Southwestern in Dallas.
Dr. Fong served as an Associate Professor at the University of Texas Southwestern, giving multiple lectures and training residents in ophthalmic surgery. She has also contributed to the ophthalmic literature by publishing original articles and scientific posters, as well as presenting at professional meetings.
The doctor is board-certified in ophthalmology by the American Board of Ophthalmology (ABO). The ABO is an independent, non-profit organization responsible for certifying ophthalmologists in the United States of America.
