Get to know Hematologist-Oncologist Dr. Chandler H. Park, who serves patients in Louisville, Kentucky.
A practicing hematologist-oncologist, Dr. Park sees patients at Norton Cancer Institute, with offices in Louisville, Kentucky. His passions are in helping cancer patients, learning new medical information, and providing up to date medical education for cancer doctors.
With nine outpatient locations, three radiation centers, and multiple infusion centers across the Louisville area, Norton Cancer Institute provides compassionate care for the whole person, not just the cancer. Their team offers patients a sophisticated experience in the latest treatments and access to more than 200 clinical trials.
A native of Kentuckiana, Dr. Park received a Bachelor of Science degree in Biomedical Engineering and Biochemistry from University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and a Doctor of Medicine degree from the University of Louisville School of Medicine. He also acquired medical science research training at the University of Louisville, and received a Master of Science degree in Biophysics.
After his medical school and graduate school research training, he served his surgery transitional internship with Cleveland Clinic Foundation Health Systems. Next, he did his residency training in diagnostic radiology and internal medicine at IU Medical Center. Afterwards, he finished subspecialist medical training in hematology and oncology at WVU Cancer Institute and received additional medical training in cancer immunotherapy as a visiting Fellow at the University of Pittsburgh.
A Fellow of the American College of Physicians (FACP), Dr. Park is triple board-certified in medical oncology, hematology, and internal-medicine by the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM). The ABIM is a physician-led, non-profit, independent evaluation organization driven by doctors who want to achieve higher standards for better care in a rapidly changing world.
In his professional experience, Dr. Park is a physician member of the molecular tumor board at the University of Kentucky Markey Cancer Center, and contributes regularly as an expert physician for popular newspapers and magazines such as Newsweek, Reader’s Digest, U.S. News & World Report, The Exponent-Telegram, College of St. Scholastica, and Medscape, and writes medical news for Doximity.
With a passion for teaching, he serves as a Clinical Professor of Biochemistry, Physiology, Hematology, and Medical Oncology at the University of Louisville School of Medicine, and works as an advisory Dean at the same institution, playing a vital role in the transition into medical school and the development into a physician. He was also selected as a teaching faculty to provide new cancer information at the American Society of Clinical Oncology.
In 2020, Dr. Park was selected as the President of the Kentucky Society of Clinical Oncology, which is the state affiliate of the American Society of Clinical Oncology, the American Society of Hematology, and the National Cancer Institute.
Hematology is the branch of medicine concerned with the study of the cause, prognosis, treatment, and prevention of diseases related to blood. Oncology is a branch of medicine that deals with the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of cancer. A hematologist-oncologist is a physician who specializes in the diagnosis, treatment, or prevention of cancer, malignant blood diseases such as leukemia, lymphoma, and multiple myeloma, and blood disorders such as iron-deficiency anemia, clotting abnormalities, hemophilia, and sickle-cell disease.
An avid researcher, Dr. Park has participated in multiple cancer clinical trials in lung, melanoma, thyroid, and bone marrow transplant. He also volunteers on the editorial board of Journal of Hospital Practice and helps select cancer journal articles for hospital physicians.
Among his most notable achievements include being recognized as a Castle Connolly Top Doctor in Cancer by his physician peers (2021, 2020, 2019). In 2021, he was recognized as one of the 3 best oncologists in Louisville, Kentucky by Three Best Rated. He has also been the recipient of the Patients’ Choice Award (2020, 2018, 2017), On-Time Doctor Award (2020, 2018, 2017), Compassionate Doctor Recognition (2020, 2018, 2017), and the 5 year Patient’s Choice Award in 2020 as one of Kentucky’s Favorite Physicians and top 1% of America’s Most Honored Doctors.
