Before joining Star Urogynecology, Dr. Azadi was affiliated with St. Vincent Hospital for Women & Children. Previously, he was on staff at Norton Women’s Specialists – Urogynecology, and served as a Clinical Assistant Professor within the Department of Obstetrics & Gynecology at the University of Louisville.
Regarding his educational background, Dr. Azadi earned his medical degree from the Shahid Beheshti Medical University in Tehran, Iran. After relocating to the United States, he completed his residency in obstetrics and gynecology at University of Tennessee, Memphis in 2008.
After finishing his residency, he completed a three-year fellowship in female pelvic medicine and reconstructive surgery (urogynecology) at University of Louisville under the directorship of Dr. Donald Ostergard. During his training, he had the opportunity to have first-hand training from world-renown experts and pioneers in the field of urogynecology and minimally invasive gynecology. Dr. Azadi is proud that he had the unique chance to receive training from Dr. Ostergard, who is also known as one of the founders of urogynecology. He also had the opportunity to have Dr. Resad Pasic as a mentor, who is known as a world leader in the field of minimally invasive gynecology and has served as the president of the American Association of Gynecologic Laparoscopy.
Following the completion of his fellowship, Dr. Azadi joined University of Louisville and was involved in teaching residents and fellows. He also earned a master’s degree in clinical research from University of Louisville’s School of Public Health, and a Master of Business Administration degree in Healthcare Management from University of Louisville.
A Fellow of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (FACOG), he is board-certified in obstetrics and gynecology & female pelvic medicine and reconstructive surgery (FPMRS) by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology (ABOG). The mission of the ABOG is to define specialty standards, certify obstetricians and gynecologists, and facilitate continuous learning to advance knowledge, practice, and professionalism in women’s health.
Due to his experience and contribution to existing literature, Dr. Azadi is considered one of the experts in the management of patients with mesh complications. He has presented many articles and surgical videos at prestigious national and international scientific meetings such as the International Urogynecological Association, the American Urogynecologic Society, and the American Association of Gynecologic Laparoscopy. He has helped patients from around the country and has performed hundreds of mesh excisions for the candidates who would benefit from this approach. He has also been actively involved in clinical research and has published in several peer-reviewed journals.
Urogynecology or urogynaecology is a surgical subspecialty of urology and gynecology. Urogynecologists handle issues related to the pelvic floor and bladder. This includes overactive bladders, weak pelvic muscles, reproductive issues, and bladder or rectal incontinence (the loss of control when going to the bathroom).
As a testament to his excellence in the field of obstetrics and gynecology, Dr. Azadi has won several awards including prestigious CREOG faculty teaching award and “Top Doc” honors. He has been designated the surgeon for excellence awards such as COEMIG and SOERS (Surgeon of Excellence in Robotic and Minimally Invasive Gynecology).
On a more personal note, Dr. Azadi is married and has 2 daughters. When he is not at work, his biggest joy is to spend time with his family. In his spare time, he enjoys outdoor running.
