Get to know Internist and Geriatrician Dr. Akash Ferdaus, who serves patients in Brooklyn, New York.

Dr. Ferdaus is a friendly and compassionate internist and geriatrician caring for the Brooklyn, New York community. He is the Founder of Akash Medical Care, PLLC.

Sensitive to the uniqueness of each patient’s situation, he adapts his consultations and treatment options appropriately to accommodate individual needs and concerns. During his consultations, he fully explains patients’ conditions and helps them choose an appropriate treatment plan.

With a broad educational background, Dr. Ferdaus graduated with his medical degree from Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College in Bangladesh in 2002. He then completed his residency in internal medicine at Jamaica Hospital Medical Center, and his fellowship in geriatric medicine at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine of Yeshiva University, Montefiore Medical Center.

Working toward better health, he is board-certified in internal medicine by the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM). The ABIM is a physician-led, non-profit, independent evaluation organization driven by doctors who want to achieve higher standards for better care in a rapidly changing world.

Among his professional affiliations, Dr. Ferdaus is a member of the American Geriatrics Society, the American Medical Association, the Society of Hospital Medicine, the American College of Physicians, and the Bangladesh Medical Association of North America. 

With vast experience working in different hospitals and medical centers in New York, he is affiliated with NewYork-Presbyterian Brooklyn Methodist Hospital, Putnam Hospital Center, and Staten Island University Hospital.

He has been the Assistant Professor of Donald and Barbara Zucker School of Medicine at Hofstra/Northwell for internal medicine and has been working for the North Well Health System since 2013.

Internal medicine is the medical specialty dealing with the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of adult diseases. Physicians specializing in internal medicine are called internists. They manage and prevent common and complex diseases by providing comprehensive care and promoting overall well-being.

Geriatrics, or geriatric medicine, is a specialty that focuses on the health care of elderly people. It aims to promote health by preventing and treating diseases and disabilities in older adults. A geriatrician is a health care provider who focuses on patient well-being and independent functioning. These allopathic or osteopathic health care providers are specifically trained to evaluate and manage the unique health care needs and special treatment requirements of older people.

Enjoying giving back to his community, Dr. Ferdaus has participated in many volunteer activities, including serving as an executive member of the Bangladesh Medical Association of North America. He acquired first position at the Bronx County Medical Society Annual Poster competition in New York in 2013 and was a finalist in poster presentation at the American Thoracic Society International Conferences in California in 2012. 

On a more personal note, he speaks English, Hindi, Urdu, and Bengali fluently, which makes him widely accessible to patients from a variety of cultural backgrounds.
