After obtaining his Bachelor of Arts Degree from Stanford University and his Master of Science Degree from the University of Texas, he went on to earn his Medical Degree from the Texas A&M College of Medicine in Bryan, Texas in 1987. He completed his residency in family practice at Methodist Hospital and at Harvard Medical School, followed by his mini-residency in geriatrics and in business at Rice University.
