Get to know Family Physician Dr. Phuong Chi Ly, who serves patients in California.

Dr. Ly is a board-certified physician practicing family medicine for over three decades. He currently works at Mission Heritage Medical Group Urgent Care – Mission Viejo in California.

His areas of expertise and clinical interests include preventative care, treating minor sport injuries and fractures, minor outpatient procedures, and both acute and chronic illness.

Dr. Ly’s philosophy of care is treating every patient as if he/she is his own family member or friend to build strong patient-physician relationships. He believes in taking the time to listen to his patients to ensure that the patient’s perspective is incorporated into his/her care. 

Arkansas was Dr. Ly’s home after immigrating from Vietnam. He graduated with his medical degree from UAMS College of Medicine in 1993, after which he finished his internship and residency at the UCLA Family Medicine program. 

Thereafter, he returned to Arkansas where he dedicated his early physician career to the underserved rural populations of the Arkansas Delta region. He worked as a Medical Director for the Department of Veterans Affairs Outpatient Clinic in Jonesboro, Arkansas and Laguna Hills, California. He also served as the Medical Director for Gateway Medical Center in Anaheim, California. 

Specializing in urgent care, the doctor is board-certified in family medicine by the American Board of Family Medicine (ABFM). The ABFM is a non-profit, independent medical association of American physicians who practice in family medicine and its sub-specialties.

Family medicine is a medical specialty devoted to comprehensive health care for people of all ages. The specialist is called a family physician or family doctor. A family physician is often the first person a patient sees when seeking healthcare services. They examine and treat patients with a wide range of conditions and refer those with serious ailments to a specialist or appropriate facility.

Some of Dr. Ly’s hobbies include playing tennis, watching movies, traveling with his family, and walking his dog. He is fluent in both English and Vietnamese.
