Passionate about the one-on-one connection she has with her patients, she likes taking time to fully get to know them and tailors a patient specific plan to improve quality of life, wellness, and living with vitality. Born and raised in Oklahoma, Dr. Darter has lived and served in Oklahoma for all but two years of her professional life. She attended Oklahoma State University where she earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Physiology. While attending Oklahoma State, she stayed active on campus as a member of Kappa Alpha Theta Sorority.
She then went on to attend The University of Oklahoma College of Medicine where she graduated with Honors and received her medical degree. While in medical school, Dr. Darter was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society. She completed her training at The University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center where she became a board-certified internist, after serving as Chief Medical Resident of Internal Medicine. She spent two years at University of Texas Southwestern, Children’s Medical Center of Dallas, and Parkland Memorial Hospital, one of the leading clinical allergy and immunology centers in the country.
In 2003, she attained board certification in allergy and immunology through the American Board of Allergy and Immunology (ABAI). The mission of the ABAI is to improve the quality of medical care by the development and utilization of professional and educational standards for the initial certification and maintenance of certification of physician specialists in allergy and immunology.
Following her formal training, Dr. Darter created the Oklahoma Institute of Allergy Asthma & Immunology in 2004, serving as the Medical Director for more than fifteen years. She has brought the original rapid desensitization immunotherapy to Oklahoma. Her research on food allergy, asthma, allergic rhinitis, eczema, and immunodeficiency has brought cutting-edge new therapies for many patients.
Licensed to practice medicine in Oklahoma, she is affiliated with Mercy Hospital Oklahoma City and Oklahoma City Veterans Affairs Medical Center.
Remaining cutting-edge and up-to-date in her sub-specialty by holding professional memberships in a host of professional organizations, Dr. Darter has the honor and distinction of being a Fellow of the American College of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology (FACAAI) and a Fellow of the American Academy of Allergy Asthma and Immunology (FAAAAI).
