With a broad educational background, Dr. Rajaratnam graduated with his medical degree from the Faculty of Medicine, University of Colombo in Sri Lanka . He  went on to perform his residencies in psychiatry  at Middletown Psychiatric Center  and at NYC Health + Hospitals / Harlem and his fellowship in Geriatric Psychiatry at Mount Sinai Beth Israel Hospital in New York City.

A Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association (FAPA), he is board-certified in Psychiatry by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology (ABPN). The ABPN is a not-for-profit corporation dedicated to promoting high-quality patient care for the public through the initial and continuing certification of psychiatrists and neurologists. Dr. Rajaratnam is also a  member of the  American Association for Geriatric Psychiatry.
