Get to know more about Psychiatrist Dr. Ranjit C. Rajaratnam, who serves patients in  Northern New Jersey.

Dr. Rajaratnam is a board-certified psychiatrist with special interest in geriatric psychiatry. He is Licensed to practice medicine in both New York and New Jersey, 

Dr. Rajaratnam provides psychiatric consultations to residents in long term care facilities including assisted living and independent living facilities as well as to residents in  nursing homes in  New Jersey..Dr. Rajaratnam is a geriatric psychiatrist at Rockland Psychiatric Center and  an Assistant Clinical Professor of Psychiatry at Columbia University. He has published a paper related to  older patients on methadone maintenance treatment.

With a broad educational background, Dr. Rajaratnam graduated with his medical degree from the Faculty of Medicine, University of Colombo in Sri Lanka . He  went on to perform his residencies in psychiatry  at Middletown Psychiatric Center  and at NYC Health + Hospitals / Harlem and his fellowship in Geriatric Psychiatry at Mount Sinai Beth Israel Hospital in New York City.

A Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association (FAPA), he is board-certified in Psychiatry by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology (ABPN). The ABPN is a not-for-profit corporation dedicated to promoting high-quality patient care for the public through the initial and continuing certification of psychiatrists and neurologists. Dr. Rajaratnam is also a  member of the  American Association for Geriatric Psychiatry.

Psychiatry is the medical specialty devoted to the diagnosis, prevention, and treatment of mental disorders. These include various maladaptations related to mood, behavior, cognition, and perceptions. Psychiatrists evaluate, diagnose, and treat patients with mental, emotional, and behavioral disorders. They conduct thorough psychiatric evaluations, develop treatment plans, prescribe medication, and evaluate treatment results.
