Dr. Brian J. Williams is affiliated with UofL Physicians – Restorative Neuroscience, seeing patients in Louisville, Kentucky. Among his other roles, Dr. Williams serves as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Neurosurgery and Co-Director of the Neurosurgery Residency Program at the University of Louisville School of Medicine, and is the Director of the Brain Tumor Program at UofL. As a neurosurgeon, Dr. Williams’ clinical interests include brain, spine, and skull base surgery, managing primary and metastatic tumors, including glioblastoma cancer. A board-certified neurosurgeon, Dr. Williams sees patients at UofL Physicians - Restorative Neuroscience, and serves as the Director of the Brain Tumor Program, Co-Director of the Neurosurgery Residency Program, and Assistant Professor of Neurosurgery at the University of Louisville School of Medicine.
Believing in patient-centered and collaborative medical treatment, the doctor works closely with patients, family/caregivers and other healthcare providers to develop an individualized treatment plan for each specific circumstance. He has special expertise in treating primary and metastatic tumors of the brain, spine, and skull base, and seeks to treat each patient in the least invasive fashion possible.
Throughout his academic career, he earned his medical degree at the Baylor College of Medicine in 2008, and completed his residency in neurosurgery at the University of Virginia at Charlottesville in 2015. Finally, he completed his fellowship in neurosurgical oncology at the MD Anderson Cancer Center in 2016.
With an unwavering commitment to his specialty, the doctor is board-certified in neurological surgery by the American Board of Neurological Surgery, whose broad aim is to encourage the study, improve the practice, elevate the standards, and advance the science of neurological surgery and thereby serve the cause of public health.
A keen researcher, Dr. Williams’ research interest focuses on understanding the stem cell biology of glioblastoma cancer-initiating cells and the role of hypoxia signaling in peritumoral edema from brain tumors. He also participates in collaborative research programs studying the clinical application of laser ablation as well as brain tumor banking.
