Get to know Dentist Dr. Bruce R. Sofferman, who serves patients in Shelton, Connecticut.

With an emphasis on orofacial pain and sleep medicine, Dr. Sofferman has been helping his patients smile since 1982. At Smile Dental Center in Shelton, Connecticut, he and his team of dental professionals work together to provide a warm, comfortable, and relaxing environment where patients’ comfort and satisfaction are top priorities.

Some of the services that they offer include: cosmetic dentistry, general dentistry, restorative dentistry, pediatric dentistry, periodontal procedures, same-day crowns, sleep apnea therapy, dental implant therapy, Invisalign, treatment for TMJ disorders, and traditional braces. 

After graduating Magna Cum Laude from Hofstra University with a Bachelor of Science degree, Dr. Sofferman went on to earn his Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) degree from the State University of New York at Buffalo.

In addition to being a Diplomate of the American Academy of Orofacial Pain, he is a member of numerous professional organizations, including the American Academy of Sleep Medicine, the American Academy of Craniofacial Pain, the American Academy of Dental Sleep Medicine, the American Dental Association, the Connecticut State Dental Association, and the Naugatuck Valley Dental Association.

Aside from tending to patients’ dental needs at his private practice, Dr. Sofferman serves as a Clinical Assistant Professor at Rutgers School of Dental Medicine in Newark, New Jersey. He also contributes his time to multiple charities and fundraisers, including Toys for Tots, the Women of Domestic Violence, Area Congregation Together/Spooner House Shelter Food Drive, and the Oxford Little League.

Dentistry, also known as Dental and Oral Medicine, is a branch of medicine that consists of the study, diagnosis, prevention, and treatment of diseases, disorders, and conditions of the oral cavity. Dentists diagnose and treat dental issues and help patients develop better oral hygiene regimens. They clean teeth, correct bite issues, perform surgeries and extractions, and perform other duties to ensure that the teeth and mouth are healthy.
