As a board-certified ophthalmologist, Dr. McCauley has tremendous experience performing cataract surgery, laser cataract surgery, phakic intraocular lens, partial thickness corneal transplant such as DSAEK and DMEK, and laser and refractive surgery. He was the first surgeon in the area to perform DMEK and the new femtosecond laser-assisted cataract surgery.

He is currently in practice at Berkeley Eye Center in The Woodlands, Texas. With a reputation that spans more than 60 years, Berkeley Eye Center is recognized as one of Texas’ most established comprehensive eye care facilities. As pioneers in the field of cataract and refractive surgery, the surgeons working there continue to set the standard in the field of LASIK laser vision correction, cataract removal and implantation, retina care, and glaucoma management. Their goal is to provide patients with affordable, superior eye care and unparalleled customer service.

After graduating from the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center School of Medicine in Denver, Colorado, Dr. McCauley completed a transitional internship at Tripler Army Medical Center in Honolulu, Hawaii. He then served as Chief of the Primary and Urgent Care Center at Camp Carroll in South Korea. His ophthalmology training was completed at the San Antonio Uniformed Services Health Education Consortium, the Brooke Army Medical Center, Fort Sam Houston, Wilford Hall Air Force Medical Center, and Lackland Air Force Base. What’s more, his fellowship training in cornea and refractive surgery was completed at Price Vision Group in Indianapolis, Indiana.

Before long, Dr. McCauley became board-certified in ophthalmology by the American Board of Ophthalmology, an independent, non-profit organization responsible for certifying ophthalmologists in the United States of America. He is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, as well as a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery, and the American Medical Association. Moreover, he is on the Board of Directors for the International Christian Ophthalmology Society.

Professionally, Dr. McCauley has served as Director of Clinical Operations, Chief of Comprehensive Ophthalmology, and residency staff at the Brooke Army Medical Center. In addition, he has served as a Clinical Assistant Professor of Ophthalmology at the University of Texas Health Science Center, where he trained military and civilian ophthalmology residents.

During his years in the military, he was honored to care for injured civilians and active-duty members. He also prepared soldiers for deployment by treating them with LASIK and PRK to eliminate their dependence on glasses and contact lenses, in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom.

Throughout his career, Dr. McCauley has received numerous honors and recognitions, including the H. Michael Lambert Outstanding Chief Resident Award, the Meritorious Service Medal, Army Achievement and Commendation medals, as well as Academic Excellence and Outstanding Merit honors. He has also received numerous research awards and has had many articles published in various ophthalmology journals.

Ophthalmology is a branch of medicine and surgery, which deals with the diagnosis and treatment of eye disorders. Ophthalmologists are experts in the diseases, functions, and anatomy of the eye. They may provide routine care such as vision testing, as well as prescribe and fit eyeglasses or contact lenses. However, ophthalmologists are also surgeons. They repair traumatic injuries to the eye and perform cataract, glaucoma, and corneal surgery.

Happily married, Dr. McCauley and his wife, Bethany, are the parents of three children.
