Get to know Psychiatrist Dr. Robert P. Albanese Jr., who serves patients in Yountville, California.

An experienced psychiatrist, Dr. Albanese Jr. is affiliated with the California Department of Veteran Affairs in Yountville. His practice focuses on schizophrenia, schizoaffective disorder, major depressive disorder, posttraumatic stress disorder, neurocognitive disorders such as Alzheimer disease and Lewy body disease as well as alcohol and drugs use disorders. 

After obtaining his undergraduate degree from East Carolina University, he went on to attend the Brody School of Medicine at East Carolina University, earning his medical degree in 1988. From there, he completed a combined residency in internal medicine & psychiatry at the University of Virginia in 1993.

With an unwavering commitment to his specialty, the doctor is board-certified in psychiatry by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology (ABPN). He has also obtained certification in Consultation-Liaison Psychiatry.  The ABPN is a not-for-profit corporation dedicated to promoting high-quality patient care for the public through the initial and continuing certification of psychiatrists and neurologists.

He is also board-certified in internal medicine by the National Board of Physicians and Surgeons  (NBPAS).  The NBPAS is a physician-led, non-profit, independent evaluation organization driven by doctors who want to achieve higher standards for better care in a rapidly changing world.  Dr. Albanese’s psychiatric practice is biological in orientation and highly informed by his experience in internal medicine. 

Recognized as a Fellow of the American College of Physicians (FACP), Dr. Albanese Jr. is an active member and past president of the Association of Medicine and Psychiatry.

Psychiatry is the medical specialty devoted to the diagnosis, prevention, and treatment of mental disorders. These include various maladaptations related to mood, behavior, cognition, and perceptions. Psychiatrists evaluate, diagnose, and treat patients with mental, emotional, and behavioral disorders.
