After obtaining his undergraduate degree from East Carolina University, he went on to attend the Brody School of Medicine at East Carolina University, earning his medical degree in 1988. From there, he completed a combined residency in internal medicine & psychiatry at the University of Virginia in 1993.

With an unwavering commitment to his specialty, the doctor is board-certified in psychiatry by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology (ABPN). He has also obtained certification in Consultation-Liaison Psychiatry.  The ABPN is a not-for-profit corporation dedicated to promoting high-quality patient care for the public through the initial and continuing certification of psychiatrists and neurologists.
