Can a bypass surgery cause kidney problems?
Thank you for your question. Leg swelling, fatigue, and worsening kidney function often coincide with one another. It is unclear from this description if the leg swelling and kidney dysfunction is due to the bypass surgery. This would depend upon his baseline kidney function, what kind of bypass surgery he had, what other medical conditions he has, and his medications. Kidney dysfunction is not something to trifle with, however. I would recommend seeing your surgeon who performed the bypass to inform him/her of the problem, and to seek guidance as to the most appropriate next steps. Good luck! READ MORE
How to relieve vascular problems in both legs?
Thank you for your question. This depends upon the cause of the swelling of both of your legs. Malfunctioning veins may be a cause of swelling, where surgical ablation might be helpful. There are many conditions that affect the entire body, however, that can also cause leg swelling, that would not be helped by surgical ablation. My recommendation to you would be to consult with a Vascular Surgeon and have them perform a thorough history and physical as well as a venous duplex ultrasound. This should help to guide your therapy. Good luck! READ MORE

Vascular surgery is a surgical subspecialty in which diseases of the vascular system, including the arteries, veins, and lymphatic circulation, are managed by medical therapy, minimally-invasive catheter procedures, and surgical reconstruction. A vascular surgeon diagnoses, treats, and manages conditions in the arteries and veins, also called the blood vessels. These specialists treat a range of health problems, from spider and varicose veins to life-threatening aneurysms, and can help patients manage chronic conditions throughout their lives.
On a more personal note, Dr. Chung is married with two children.
