Get to know Family Physician Dr. Maria T. Garcia, who serves patients in Westfield, New Jersey.

With a clinical interest in preventive medicine and primary care, Dr. Garcia is a board-certified family physician who values the patient-practitioner relationship above all. She is affiliated with Barnabas Health Medical Group – Associates in Internal Medicine in Westfield, New Jersey.

An affiliate of RWJBarnabas Health, Saint Barnabas Medical Center is a 577-bed non-profit major teaching hospital. It is the oldest and largest nonprofit, nonsectarian hospital in New Jersey. 

On the subject of her educational background, Dr. Garcia earned her medical degree from the Rutgers New Jersey Medical School in Newark, New Jersey. She completed her residency at St. Peter’s University Hospital, New Brunswick, NJ and at  Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, New Brunswick, NJ.. To further advance her efforts, she remains a member of the American Academy of Family Physicians, the American Medical Association, and the New Jersey Academy of Family Physicians. 

Furthermore, she is board-certified in family medicine by the American Board of Family Medicine, a non-profit, independent medical association of American physicians who practice in family medicine and its sub-specialties. 

Family medicine is a medical specialty devoted to comprehensive health care for people of all ages. The specialist is called a family physician or family doctor. A family physician is often the first person whom a patient sees when seeking healthcare services. They examine and treat patients with a wide range of conditions and refer those with serious ailments to a specialist or appropriate facility. 

Throughout her career, Dr. Garcia has been honored with several awards and recognitions, including the Patients’ Choice Award in 2011 and from 2014 to 2019 and Compassionate Doctor Recognition in 2011 and from 2016 to 2018. She has also participated in medical mission trips to the Philippines.

Active with St. Helena’s Church in Edison, she enjoys playing the piano, going to the theater, and reading when she is not tending to patients.
