    A patient with a herniated spinal disc that is having severe pain, or new numbness/weakness in their extremities, or suffering from groin numbness/incontinence should be seen urgently. If your physician cannot see you that day, I would seek care at a high level functioning urgent care (most urgent care clinics are not set up to take care of this), or an Emergency Department. You may need emergent X-rays or MRI, and spinal surgeon referral. Of course, your pain needs to be controlled, and you may benefit from steroids and muscle relaxers. READ MORE

    You should seek immediate medical care whenever you are short of breath, whether it is due to Covid or not. Until a medical provider examines you, checks your oxygen saturation, and considers whether you need a chest X-ray, you are simply guessing. I am very concerned people could wait too long and suffer permanent disability or death by delaying seeking needed medical care. And many patients assume they have Covid, when they end up having a life-threatening condition that could be treated (like pneumonia, blood clot in their lung, etc.). READ MORE

    Heat stroke is a very serious and potentially deadly medical condition. Once you suffer from heat stroke, another is more likely. Be sure your daughter avoids medications which can make heat stroke more likely when she is exposed to high ambient temperatures, such as antihistamines and some of the psychotropic medications. In addition, do not exercise in the heat, as the calories you burn elevate your internal core temperatures; in addition to high ambient temperatures, this can contribute to heat stroke. Good luck.     If your child is older than 2 months, a fever by itself may not be an emergency. Children less than 2 months should be evaluated by a physician that day, as their immune system is not very strong yet. The question is why is your child having a fever? If the child looks ill, appears confused, appears short of breath, has abdominal pain, or has a rash with a fever, I would recommend going to see a doctor that day.
