Get to know General Surgeon Dr. Renato G. Albaran, who serves patients in Michigan.

A reputable general surgeon, Dr. Albaran is a part of the team of professionals at Rochester General Surgery, PLC. He treats patients using both minimally invasive and traditional surgical techniques at the offices in Rochester Hills and Clarkston, Michigan.

Licensed to practice medicine in Michigan, Dr. Albaran is affiliated with Ascension Providence Rochester Hospital; Beaumont Hospital, Troy; St. Joseph Mercy Oakland; Henry Ford Macomb Hospital – Clinton Township; McLaren Oakland Hospital; and McLaren Clarkston Surgery Center. He also serves as a Clinical Assistant Professor within the Department of Surgery at Wayne State University, Detroit Medical Center. 

A firm believer that it is necessary to have an excellent educational background in order to be a leader in the surgical field, Dr. Albaran graduated with his medical degree from the University of Maryland School of Medicine in 1991. He then went on to perform his residency in general surgery and his surgical research fellowship at Detroit Medical Center.

Following his training, he attained board certification in general surgery through the American Board of Surgery (ABS). The ABS is an independent, non-profit organization located in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, founded for the purpose of certifying surgeons who have met a defined standard of education, training, and knowledge.

A Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, he is a member of the American Hernia Society, the Oakland County Medical Society, the Detroit Surgical Association, the University of Maryland Medical Alumni Association, and the Michigan State Medical Society. 

Combining knowledge and 30 years of experience to provide state-of-the-art treatment and compassionate care, Dr. Albaran is a Liaison on the Cancer Committee. He is also the author of “CD4 Counts as a Prognostic Factor of Major Abdominal Surgery in HIV Patients” in Archives of Surgery, 1998.

General surgery is a surgical specialty that focuses on abdominal contents including the esophagus, stomach, small bowel, colon, liver, pancreas, gallbladder, appendix and bile ducts, and often the thyroid gland.
