Get to know Pulmonologist and Critical Care Specialist Dr. Richard S. Prager, who serves patients in Miami, Florida.

Well-versed in the field of pulmonology and critical care medicine, Dr. Prager diagnoses and treats patients through his private practice, Intensive Care Services/Professional Healthcare Associates LLC, located in Miami, Florida.

With an impressive professional journey that spans over 25 years, he possesses specialized knowledge and skill in the diagnosis and treatment of pulmonary/lung conditions and diseases, and provides special care for critically ill patients. His areas of expertise cover general oncology, hematology, and thoracic cancer.

Academically, Dr. Prager holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Zoology from the University of Michigan. He attended the Chicago Medical School Rosalind Franklin University School of Medicine and was awarded his medical degree in 1977. He then comple,ed his internship and residency training at Cleveland Clinic, in Cleveland Ohio and his fellowship in Pulmonary Medicine at Long Beach VA Hospital / University of Davis California and fellowship in Critical Care Medicine at Jacksonville Memorial Medical Center in Jacksonville Florida. 

A Fellow of the American College of Chest Physicians (FCCP) and a Fellow of the American College of Critical Care Medicine (FCCM), the doctor is board-certified in pulmonary disease, critical care medicine, and internal medicine by the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM). The ABIM is a physician-led, non-profit, independent evaluation organization driven by doctors who want to achieve higher standards for better care in a rapidly changing world.

In order to remain at the forefront of his challenging specialty, Dr. Prager is a member of the American Thoracic Society and the American College of Physicians-Internal Medicine. He is also a board member of the International Maritime Health Association.

Holding a license to practice medicine in Florida, he can be found on staff at Baptist Hospital of Miami, Homestead Hospital, Jackson Memorial Hospital, Jackson South Medical Center, and South Miami Hospital.

Pulmonology is a medical specialty that deals with diseases involving the respiratory tract. A pulmonologist is an internal medicine physician who specializes in preventing, diagnosing, and treating conditions and diseases that affect the lungs, bronchial tubes, and the respiratory system, including the nose, pharynx, and throat.

Intensive care medicine, also called critical care medicine, is a medical specialty that deals with seriously or critically ill patients who have, are at risk of, or are recovering from conditions that may be life-threatening. Critical care specialists provide around-the-clock care in highly-stressful situations within intensive care units (ICUs) in hospitals or trauma centers to the most seriously injured or ill patients.

As a testament of his outstanding performance in his field, The International Association of HealthCare Professionals (IAHCP) has selected Dr. Prager to be featured in the premier publication of The Leading Physicians of the World. He is also listed among the Top 25 Innovators in Health Imaging and IT.

In his spare time, he enjoys poetry and reading. His favorite place to vacation is Paris, France, and his favorite professional publication is the European Journal of Intensive Care Medicine.
