Get to know Family Practitioner Dr. Peter J. Minkoff, who serves patients in Escondido, California.

Dr. Minkoff has been practicing and living in Escondido, California as a board-certified family practitioner since 1985. He enjoys all aspects of family medicine, from newborns to centenarians, as well as from casting fractures to suturing lacerations. He joined the El Norte Medical Group in 1987.

In affiliation with GrayBill Medical Group, El Norte Medical Group is a family practice with four board-certified physicians and a physician’s assistant. For more than 30 years, the practice has provided medical care to families ranging from infants to seniors.

Having grown up in North Massapequa, New York, Dr. Minkoff graduated from the University of Buffalo with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1974, after which he earned his medical degree from the same educational venue in 1978.

In 1981, he completed a three-year residency in family practice at Glen Cove Community Hospital, which is a part of Cornell University. He then practiced in Farmingdale, New York, which is a small community on the south shore of Long Island.

In 1985, he moved to Escondido with Michelle (his wife of 31 years) and the first of his three sons. All three of Dr. Minkoff’s sons attended Miller Elementary School, then Del Dios Middle School and San Pasqual High School. Subsequently, they attended the University of San Diego, with two becoming accountants and one becoming a Spanish teacher at the Classical Academy High School in Escondido.

Among the doctor’s many accomplishments, he earned board certification in family medicine by the American Board of Family Medicine, a non-profit, independent medical association of American physicians who practice in family medicine and its sub-specialties.

Family medicine, formerly family practice, is a medical specialty devoted to comprehensive health care for people of all ages. The specialist is called a family practitioner or family doctor. They are expected to treat a wide range of medical conditions, develop long-term, personal relationships with their patients, produce individualized healthcare programs based on patient historical data, and offer continuous support and health management advice.

Frequently involved with the Community of Escondido, Dr. Minkoff serves on the Board of the Escondido Continental Little League. He has also served as the Director of the Competitive Branch of the Escondido Soccer League for the last seven years.

When he is not working, Dr. Minkoff enjoys gardening, playing sports, as well as helping the young residents of Escondido while living in the countryside of Hidden Meadows.
