Born in the beautiful island of Jamaica, Dr. Thesiger attended Campion College, the top rated Catholic high school in the country. He graduated with distinction and was accepted at the Johns Hopkins University, majoring in Natural Sciences with a minor in Biophysics. He was accepted to Columbia University’s College of Physicians and Surgeons in 1989 and earned his medical degree.
Having always expressed a desire to blend art and science, he sought a residency in surgery with a focus on further specializing in plastic surgery where his goal could be realized. After doing an internship at Columbia Presbyterian in New York, he came to Washington, D.C. to study general surgery at Howard University.
After five rigorous years of general surgery training, he went on to the University of Miami where he completed a residency in plastic surgery in 2002. Then, he was chosen to be the third Jerome Webster Fellow in pediatric plastic surgery by Interplast Inc., a philanthropic organization based in Mountain View, California. This fellowship took Dr. Thesiger to nine countries in the space of a year spanning from South America to the Far East, performing cleft lip & palate as well as hand surgery for poor children. He identifies this as the finest year of his academic life.
After working as an associate in private practice outside of Cleveland, Ohio, he opened his own specialized center of excellence in Washington, D.C. in January 2006.
Bringing knowledge and expertise to his field, Dr. Thesiger is board-certified through the National Board of Physicians and Surgeons (NBPAS). The NBPAS is committed to providing board recertification for both MDs and DOs that ensures physician compliance with national standards and promotes lifelong learning.
Among his numerous accolades, he is the recipient of Patients’ Choice Award (2008, 2009, 2010, 2012, 2013), Compassionate Doctor Recognition (2012, 2013, 2015, 2016), and On-Time Doctor Award (2015, 2016).
