Get to know Orthopaedic Surgeons Dr. Michael H. Bourne & Dr. Marc Mariani, who serve patients in Salt Lake City, Utah.

Dr. Bourne and Dr. Mariani are orthopaedic surgeons who have been board-certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery (ABOS). The ABOS is an organization with the goal of establishing educational and professional standards for orthopaedic residents and surgeons, as well as evaluating the qualifications and competence of orthopaedic surgeons. 

At present, they are in practice at Salt Lake Orthopaedic Clinic in Salt Lake City, Utah. The Salt Lake Orthopaedic Clinic has formed a diverse group of orthopaedic surgeons who perform advanced surgeries for all orthopaedic conditions and sports injuries. Their combined experience and interests allow them to address the full spectrum of musculoskeletal problems. By pooling their knowledge and experience, they offer a strong research-based practice to ensure the best care possible for each patient.

Dr. Bourne 

Dr. Bourne’s specialties include adult reconstructive surgery, total joint replacement, arthroscopy, sports medicine, and hip replacement. His professional experience includes Chairman of the Department of Surgery at St. Mark’s Hospital, as well as Chief Resident Associate at Mayo Clinic.

He earned his medical degree from the University of Utah School of Medicine in Salt Lake City, followed by an internship at Mayo Clinic Mayo Graduate School of Medicine in Rochester, Minnesota. He then went on to complete his residency in orthopaedics at the same venue, followed by his fellowship training at Tahoe Fracture and Orthopaedic Clinic in South Lake Tahoe, California. 

In order to stay up to date in his field, the doctor remains a member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, the American College of Surgeons, the Western Orthopaedic Association, the Association of Bone and Joint Surgeons, Orthopaedic Overseas, and the American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons.

Dr. Mariani

In his many professional roles, Dr. Mariani serves as Chief Resident Associate at Mayo Clinic, Staff and Consultant with the Department of Orthopaedics at Mayo Clinic, Assistant Professor at Mayo Medical School, as well as Chief of the Orthopaedic Division at St. Mark’s Hospital. His specialities include adult reconstructive surgery, total joint replacement, arthroscopy, hip replacement.

In regards to his educational background, he earned his medical degree from the University of Utah School of Medicine, followed by an internship and residency in orthopaedic surgery at Mayo Clinic Mayo Graduate School of Medicine. He then went on to complete his fellowship in adult reconstruction/total joint replacement at Mayo Clinic. As an expert in his field, he remains a member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons and the American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons.

Orthopaedic surgery or orthopaedics is the branch of surgery concerned with conditions involving the musculoskeletal system. Orthopaedic surgeons use both surgical and nonsurgical means to treat musculoskeletal trauma, spine diseases, sports injuries, degenerative diseases, infections, tumors, and congenital disorders.
