Get to know Psychiatrist Dr. Chester L. Day, who serves patients in Virginia.

Board-certified psychiatrist, Dr. Day has over four decades of experience in his field. He earned his medical degree from the University of Kansas School of Medicine in 1973, before going on to complete his residency in psychiatry at the University of Kansas Medical Center in 1976.

In his professional career, Dr. Day can be found on staff at Inova Psychiatric Assessment Center in Fairfax, Virginia & Inova Behavioral Health Services in Alexandria, Virginia. What’s more, he is affiliated with several hospitals in the area, including Inova Fairfax Hospital and Inova Mount Vernon Hospital.

In addition to being a Distinguished Life Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association, Dr. Day is board-certified in psychiatry by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology (ABPN). The ABPN is a not-for-profit corporation dedicated to promoting high quality patient care for the public through the initial and continuing certification of psychiatrists and neurologists. 

Dr. Day has also worked in clinical and administrative positions in community service boards at mental health centers and in academic settings. Currently, he is as an instructor in the Department of Psychiatry at The George Washington University, Washington, DC.

Psychiatry is the medical specialty devoted to diagnosing, preventing, and treating mental disorders. These include various maladaptations related to mood, behavior, cognition, and perceptions. Psychiatrists, like Dr. Day, are medical doctors that evaluate patients to determine whether their symptoms are the result of a physical illness, a combination of physical and mental ailments, or strictly psychiatric. They are qualified to assess both the mental and physical aspects of psychological problems.
