Dr. Zamora is an experienced pediatric interventional cardiologist who joined Pediatrix Cardiology of San Antonio in 2003, operating out of both Methodist Children’s Hospital  & Methodist Plaza Clinic and University of Texas Health Sciences Center.

While specializing in interventional catheterization, his additional areas of interest include invasive and non-invasive evaluation and treatment of congenital and acquired heart disease. Dr. Zamora has extensive experience in diagnostic and interventional cardiac catheterization, having performed well over 500 device closures of atrial septal defects. His experience also includes transcatheter stent placement, device closure of patent ductus arteriosus and patent foramen ovale, balloon angioplasty, and balloon valvuloplasty.

He was the first pediatric cardiologist in San Antonio to perform percutaneous atrial septal defect device closure and pulmonary valve replacement (Melody Valve, Edwards Sapien valve and Edwards Alterra stent ), a procedure to replace a pulmonary valve via cardiac catheterization.

Although originally from Los Angeles California, Dr. Zamora was raised and educated in Mexico, where he attended medical school at the University of Monterrey Faculty of Medicine in Monterrey, Nuevo León. After graduating from medical school in 1985, he returned to Los Angeles for a residency in pediatrics at White Memorial Medical Center where he served as chief resident. He then completed a fellowship in pediatric cardiology at the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis.

After completing his pediatric cardiology training, Dr. Zamora served as a professor of pediatrics and as director of the Pediatric Heart Catheterization Laboratory at the University of Arizona College of Medicine in Tucson for 11 years. During his tenure, he authored or co-authored more than 20 articles with emphasis on interventional heart catheterizations.

Pediatrics is the branch of medicine that involves the medical care of infants, children, and adolescents, while cardiology is a branch of medicine that deals with the disorders of the heart as well as some parts of the circulatory system. Pediatric cardiologists specialize in diagnosing and treating heart problems in children. In those children who might need heart surgery, pediatric cardiologists work closely with pediatric heart surgeons to determine the best treatments and interventions.

Throughout his extensive career, Dr. Zamora has lectured at local, national, and international conferences, and has conducted clinical research trials approved by the Food and Drug Administration for device closure of atrial and ventricular septal defects, patent ductus arteriosus, and patent foramen ovale. He has also been the principal investigator in a clinical trial for use of the anticoagulation medication, Angiomax, for use during cardiac catheterization.

On a more personal note, Dr. Zamora is fluent in both English and Spanish.
