Dr. Haroutunian, also known as “Dr. Harry” to his patients, is a renowned doctor, author, lecturer, sponsor, and friend who has dedicated nearly 40 years of his life to helping individuals and families struggling with addiction. He is an expert in the field of addiction and recovery and has been featured in numerous prominent media outlets, including the New York Times and Cosmopolitan, and has made appearances on various talk shows, such as the Dr. Oz Show and The Dr. Phil Show.

In his current role as President and Founding Director of the Harry Haroutunian, MD, Recovery & Wellness Network, he offers addiction treatment services designed to help populations not well served by traditional treatment models. His approach is discreet, focused, and intense, and he only works with a limited number of patients at a time to ensure his full attention is focused on their successful outcomes. His network has offices in both Rancho Mirage and Beverly Hills, California.

After completing his medical degree from Albany Medical College of Union University in New York, Dr. Harry spent 30 years practicing family and sports medicine in southern Vermont. He then went on to spend the next 13 years as Physician Director of Professional and Residential Programs at the world-famous Betty Ford Center in Rancho Mirage, California, where he worked with thousands of patients in treatment, ranging from celebrities and CEOs to stay-at-home moms and older adults.

Distinguished as a Fellow of the American Society of Addiction Medicine (FASAM), he is a board-certified physician in both addiction and family medicine and is a member of several professional organizations, including the American Academy of Family Physicians, the California Academy of Family Physicians, and the American Medical Association.

A well-known figure in his field, Dr. Harry is the author of two books, Not as Prescribed: Recognizing and Facing Alcohol and Drug Misuse in Older Adults, and Being Sober: Getting to, Getting through, and Living in Recovery, and co-author of Hijacking the Brain.

To boot, he has created “Recovery 101,” a series of recorded lectures on the topics of addiction medicine, recovery issues, communication skills, spirituality, and relapse prevention, which has been used throughout the country by treatment facilities, family-care programs, and medical schools to educate new doctors.

Addiction medicine is a medical subspecialty that deals with the diagnosis, prevention, evaluation, treatment, and recovery of persons with addiction, of those with substance-related and addictive disorders, and of people who show unhealthy use of substances including alcohol, nicotine, prescription medicine and other illicit and licit drugs.
