Get to know Neonatologist Dr. Teofilita Isaacson, who serves patients in Mineola, New York.

Being a fellowship-trained neonatologist, Dr. Isaacson coordinates and manages care for critically ill newborns who have respiratory, cardiovascular, gastrointestinal, nutritional, infectious, genetic, endocrine, and neurological conditions in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU). She performs procedures that include intubation, chest tube placement, needle aspiration, and central line placement.

In her current capacity, she serves as the Clinical Director of the NICU at NYU Langone Hospital—Long Island in Mineola, New York. She works with a team of highly experienced specialists to provide the safest and highest quality of care. 

Dr. Isaacson decided to pursue a career in medicine because she takes pride in providing care to people and improving their long-term outcomes. She graduated with her medical degree from the University of the East College of Medicine in 1972. Furthering his training, she went on to perform her residency in pediatrics at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in 1979, her residency in pediatrics at Jewish Hospital & Medical Center of Brooklyn in 1982, as well as her fellowships in neonatal-perinatal medicine and pediatric infectious diseases at Interfaith Medical Center in 1984 and 1985, respectively. 

A Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics, the doctor is board-certified in pediatrics and neonatal-perinatal medicine by the American Board of Pediatrics (ABP). The mission of the ABP is to advance child health by certifying pediatricians who meet standards of excellence and are committed to continuous learning and improvement.

In addition to serving as a physician, Dr. Isaacson conducts research focused on safe sleep studies and enteral feeding initiatives to improve quality of life for her patients. She also serves as a Clinical Assistant Professor within the Department of Pediatrics at NYU Long Island School of Medicine.

Neonatology is a subspecialty of pediatrics that consists of the medical care of newborn infants, especially the ill, or premature newborns. It is a hospital-based specialty and is usually practiced in neonatal intensive care units.
