Get to know Anesthesiologist and Pain Management Specialist Dr. Marshall Bedder, who serves patients in Augusta, Georgia.

An anesthesiologist and a specialist in the field of pain management, Dr. Bedder’s clinical interests include advanced technology solutions for chronic pain patients, neuromodulation, and addiction medicine. He is an Associate Professor and Director of the Addiction Medicine Fellowship program at the Medical College of Georgia at Augusta University.

The Medical College of Georgia is the flagship medical school of the University System of Georgia, the state’s only public medical school, and one of the top 10 largest medical schools in the United States.

Back in the early days of his academic career, Dr. Bedder graduated with his medical degree from the University of Manitoba in 1982.

With over four decades of experience, the doctor is board-certified in anesthesiology and pain medicine by the American Board of Anesthesiology (ABA). As the certifying body for anesthesiologists since 1938, the ABA is committed to partnering with physicians to advance lifelong learning and exceptional patient care. Its mission is to advance the highest standards of the practice of anesthesiology. 

Furthermore, he is board-certified in addiction medicine by the American Board of Addiction Medicine (ABAM). The ABAM provides assurance to the American public that addiction medicine physicians have the knowledge and skills to prevent, recognize, and treat addiction.

A Board member Emeritus for the American Society of Pain and Neuroscience, Dr. Bedder has continued to serve on the Medical Advisory Board for Boston Scientific Neuromodulation since 2006. 

Anesthesiology is the medical specialty concerned with the total perioperative care of patients before, during, and after surgery. It encompasses anesthesia, intensive care medicine, critical emergency medicine, and pain medicine. Anesthesiologists have the primary responsibility of monitoring the patient’s vital signs during surgery. In addition to basic measurements such as pulse, blood pressure, and temperature, they measure the patient’s respiration.

Pain management is a branch of medicine employing an interdisciplinary approach for easing the suffering and improving the quality of life of those living with chronic pain. A pain management specialist is a doctor who specializes in pain medicine, focusing on the evaluation, treatment, and prevention of pain.

A Canadian born and trained physician, Dr. Bedder is now a naturalized US citizen.
