A devoted family physician, Dr. Medeiros sees patients at the Kaiser Permanente Lihue Clinic in Hawaii.
Born and raised on the Hawaiian Homestead in Anahola, Kauai, she became interested in practicing medicine at a very young age. In high school, she became involved in medical research and won a grand prize in medicine and health at an international science fair. She also began exploring traditional Hawaiian medicine, and attempts to this day to incorporate some of that into a Western practice.
Because she grew up in Hawaii, Dr. Medeiros is able to identify and bond with her patients and their families. Specializing in family medicine is an ideal way for her to provide care to the community because she is able to recommend healthy living practices that are compatible with their existing lifestyles. She also encourages medical students to return to their roots to care for their home communities.
In regards to her educational background, she attended grade school at Kapaa Elementary and then continued her education as a boarder at Kamehameha Schools Kapalama on Oahu. She earned her undergraduate degree in Biochemistry from Dartmouth College in New Hampshire, and completed her medical education at the University of Hawaii, John A. Burns School of Medicine. She also completed her internship and residency in family medicine at the University of Hawaii.
As a testament of her continued education, the doctor is board-certified in family medicine by the American Board of Family Medicine (ABFM). The ABFM is a non-profit, independent medical association of American physicians who practice family medicine and its sub-specialties.
Remaining up to date in her field, Dr. Medeiros is an active member of the Hawaii Academy of Family Physicians, and the American Medical Association. In addition to wanting to provide the best care to her patients, she mentors and teaches high school and medical school students. Therefore, it is important for her to stay up-to-date with the latest developments in medicine. She does this by reading professional journals, attending medical conferences, taking continuing education courses, and consulting her colleagues.
