Dr. Hawthorne Smith is a licensed psychologist practicing in New York, NY. He is the Director of the Bellevue Program for Survivors of Torture, and serves as the Presdient of the National Consortium of Torture Treatment Programs. He is also an Associate Clinical Professor within the Department of Psychiatry at the NYU School of Medicine. Dr. Smith specializes in resilience-based, culturally-informed, interdisciplinary treatment survivors of  human rights abuses from all over the world, who have come to the US seeking a new life in the U.S founded on safety and dignity. In addition to individual therapy and forensic evaluations, Dr. Smith continues to facilitate a support group for French-speaking African survivors of torture he has led since 1996. He trains extesnively across the country and internationally. He is widely published and is also a professional musician (sax and vocals) with international experience who gigs regualrly in NYC.
