Originally from rural Nevada, Dr. Peterson is thrilled to embrace the vibrant community of the greater Minneapolis area, where his wife has deep roots. He earned his Bachelor of Science Degree in Neuroscience from Brigham Young University before pursuing his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine Degree at the A.T. Still University – Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine. Following medical school, Dr. Peterson completed his internship and residency at Michigan State University, where he was actively involved in the Resident’s Council with the American Osteopathic College of Ophthalmology and Otolaryngology, Head and Neck Surgery. His dedication to research was evident as he presented his findings at numerous national meetings.
After completion of his ophthalmology residency, Dr. Peterson completed a fellowship in medical retina at the prestigious Joslin Diabetes Center – Beetham Eye Institute, an affiliate of Harvard Medical School and Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary in Boston. This fellowship allowed him to hone his skills in clinical medical retinal care and engage in cutting-edge research.
Board certified through the American Osteopathic Board of Ophthalmology and Otolaryngology, Dr. Peterson is an active member of several professional organizations, including the American Osteopathic College of Ophthalmology – Head and Neck Surgery and the Minnesota Academy of Ophthalmology. In addition, he is a Fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, reflecting his dedication to maintaining the highest standards of patient care.
Consistently voted by peers and patients as one of Minnesota’s Top Doctors (2017-2023) and Rising Stars (2017-2023), Dr. Peterson has spoken and presented research at many national conferences, including the American Diabetes Association, and Annual Clinical Assembly of the American Osteopathic College of Ophthalmology and Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery (AOCOO-HNS).
