Get to know Cardiologist Dr. Iani Patsias, who serves patients throughout the State of Florida.

Dr. Patsias is a cardiologist at Memorial Healthcare System specializing in advanced heart failure and transplant cardiology. He cares for patients with refractory cases of heart failure, which is a common pathway for any form of severe heart disease. In many cases, he uses mechanical circulatory support devices (either temporary or permanent) to aid a failing heart. He also provides pre- and post-heart transplantation care management.

“I love how medicine provides a humanistic approach to science and technology. Every patient is different and I believe as a physician, I need to understand the patient before the condition. Understanding what someone is experiencing, going through and their goals and dreams helps me to help them improve their health and heart function. It's also equally important for patients to understand their specific heart condition. I truly believe that the better informed a patient is, the better they will do” expressed the doctor.

A native of Peru, he graduated with his medical degree from the Universidad de San Martín de Porres in 2008. After relocating to the United States, he completed his residency in internal medicine and his fellowship in cardiovascular disease at the Henry Ford Hospital in 2015 and 2018, respectively. He also completed a fellowship in advanced heart failure and transplant cardiology at the University of Washington Medical Center in 2019.

Distinguished as a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology (FACC), the doctor is board-certified in cardiovascular disease, adult echocardiography, nuclear cardiology, and internal medicine by the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM). The ABIM is a physician-led, non-profit, independent evaluation organization driven by doctors who want to achieve higher standards for better care in a rapidly changing world.

Among his other roles, Dr. Patsias can be found on staff at Memorial Hospital Miramar, and Memorial Hospital Pembroke.

Cardiology is a branch of medicine that deals with the disorders of the heart, as well as some parts of the circulatory system. The field includes medical diagnosis and treatment of congenital heart defects, coronary artery disease, heart failure, valvular heart disease, and electrophysiology. Cardiologists are doctors who diagnose, assess, and treat patients with diseases and defects of the heart and blood vessels (the cardiovascular system).
