Get to know General Dentist Dr. Rod Zimmerman, who serves patients in Jacksonville, Florida.

Dr. Zimmerman, also known as Dr. Z, is a general dentist who has been serving patients’ dental needs at his private dental practice, at a Smile Resort in Jacksonville, Florida for over 30 years.

 Dr. Zimmerman’s mission is to be recognized for excellence, giving his patients the best dentistry can offer. His vast dental knowledge, and experience, committed to delivering the highest quality dental care using state-of-the-art dental equipment, his commitment to learning and staying abreast of the evolving dental profession, it is no wonder that Dr. Zimmerman has been voted by his peers as a Top General Dentist for 8 consecutive years, from 2012 to 2019.  The selection process for this prestigious nomination is based on peer-review surveys conducted from dental professionals to vote for their peers with the highest ratings that they would send their family and friends. He also recently received recognition for Top Invisalign doctor 2019.

Dr. Zimmerman earned his bachelor’s degree in biological science with Cum Laude honors from the University of California, Irvine. He then went on to earn his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from McGill University in 1984. Dr. Zimmerman successfully received his general practice certification from the University of Florida. 

Dr. Z,  is a proud and active member with the American Dental Association, the Academy of Implant Dentistry, the Florida Dental Association, Northeast District Dental Association, Florida Dental Society of Anesthesiology, Academy of Implant Dentistry, and International Congress of Oral Implantologist.  He received his IV permit from St. Joseph’s Medical Center, New Jersey, completed the continuum of Implant Dentistry at the University of Florida to become proficient in placing dental implants, and enthusiastically continues his advanced education to stay abreast in the field of dentistry.  Dr. Zimmerman was first to bring to Jacksonville the ND-Yag  Laser. He received certification to use the Er-Yag Laser to treat carious lesions in the mouth. Dr. Zimmerman is a certified Invisalign provider. Invisalign is a type of orthodontic treatment that helps to straighten teeth without the use of the typical metal braces.

Dr. Z’s motto is We Cater to Cowards,  means we take care of our patients like family. Dr. Z and his staff treat his patients with the utmost compassion and he gets great satisfaction hearing sincere appreciation from them. Dr. Z is proud to be part of a profession that gives back. Dr. Z has volunteered with Healing Hands, Give Kids a Smile, Mission of Mercy, and Mission trip with Nova Southeastern University Dental school helping those in need in Jamaica.  Dr. Zimmerman’s passion for educating the public on dentistry has afforded his fortune of being interviewed by Channel 12 News and publishing articles in the community news. His community involvement has extended to teaching children about preventive dentistry at neighborhood schools and at the Birth and Parenting Club.

Dr. Z believes God has given all of us a gift in life. For Dr. Z it is the gift of practicing dentistry. “There is no better treasure than giving my gift to others who are in need. It is the touching of someone’s heart with the gift of giving that makes it all worthwhile,” says Dr. Z. One special moment he recalls was when a patient in need of his services wrote: “Dear Dr. Zimmerman, I am so very grateful to all you did for me on Saturday.  I could feel God’s love and care all around me. My gratitude is truly beyond my ability. to express it. May God bless all of you and those you love. Your service to the poor and unhealthy is a true testament to your Godliness. PS.
