Eric M. Kraus, M.D., M.S., F.A.C.S., otologist and Founder/President of The Ear Center of Greensboro, P.A., graduated from Swarthmore College with a B.A. in Biology with Distinction in 1973 and from the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine Cum Laude in 1977. He completed two years of general surgery residency at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. While at the University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics from 1979-83, Dr. Kraus completed his Otolaryngology-Head & Neck Surgery residency, obtained a Master’s of Science Degree, and completed an American Cancer Society Head & Neck Cancer Fellowship. He became Board Certified in Otolaryngology in 1983. Dr. Kraus has been practicing otologic surgery at The Ear Center of Greensboro, PA, Greensboro, NC, since 1989. He is an adjunct clinical professor at the University of North Carolina-Greensboro. Dr. Kraus has been the co-chairman of the Cone Health Institutional Review Board for the 30 years. Eric is an inventor. He has been granted three U.S. utility patents. He has invented the Kraus Ossicle-Cup Middle Ear Prosthesis, the Kraus TM Microcut™ Forceps, and the Kraus K-Helix Crown & Piston prostheses for endoskeletal ossicular reconstruction. From 2004-2010, he served as a co-investigator and surgical consultant for the Envoy Esteem™ Totally Implantable Hearing System U.S. Pivotal Trial. Trial results led to FDA approval of the Esteem hearing implant in March 2010 and two publications, one in July 2011 and one in December 2011. Dr. Kraus is married to Kathy J. Kraus, M.A., R.N. and has three adult daughters, Whitney (B.S. Arch. University of Michigan, M.Arch. Yale University School of Architecture), Jordan (arcBARKS Baker), and Blair (B.S.N., R.N., M.S.N. University of Pennsylvania, School of Nursing, M.B.E. (Masters of BioEthics) University of Pennsylvania Medical School).
