Dr. Cusano’s illustrious journey began with a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Cornell University in 1977, followed by a Medical Degree from The Robert Larner, M.D. College of Medicine at The University of Vermont in 1981. His rigorous training in internal medicine at St. Vincent’s Hospital and Medical Center in New York and specialization in nephrology at Long Island Jewish Medical Center laid a strong foundation for his future endeavors.

In 1989, Dr. Cusano began his practice in Waterbury, Connecticut, where he established himself in primary care internal medicine and nephrology consulting. As a Clinical Faculty member at Yale University School of Medicine since 1990 and Associate Faculty at Quinnipiac University Frank H. Netter MD School of Medicine since 2012, his commitment to education has been recognized by his trainees with the Clinician Educator of the Year Award.

Beyond clinical practice and education, Dr. Cusano has held numerous administrative roles, including Chief Medical Officer and President of the Greater Waterbury Physician Hospital Organization, Chief of the Department of Medicine at Waterbury Hospital Health Center, and Medical Director for Davita Dialysis, Inc. His leadership roles on various boards, including Aetna Health Plans and the New Haven County Medical Association, further highlight his extensive involvement in shaping healthcare policy and practice.

Currently serving as the Founder and Managing Partner of Operam Healthcare, LLC, Dr. Cusano is passionate about ensuring that medical care remains patient-centered and directed by the patients in partnership with their healthcare providers.
