Dr. Newton is a board-certified family medicine physician practicing at medExpress Urgent Care in Virginia. Urgent Care Medicine is the provision of immediate medical service offering outpatient care for the treatment of acute and chronic illness and injury. In addition to his work with MedExpress Urgent Care, Dr. Newton volunteers as a Family Medicine Faculty at EVMS School of Medicine and Assistant Professor of Family Medicine at MCV/VCU. He is also on the medical faculty at the UNEJ in Indonesia.
Dr. Newton commenced his academic journey with a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology acquired at Hampden-Sydney College in 1980. He then continued with a Master of science degree in Biochemistry , which he earned at Virginia Commonwealth University in 1982. Dr. Newton received his medical degree at Virginia Commonwealth University Medical College in 1986, and completed his residency in family medicine at the MCV/VCU (1986 - 1989).
Subsequent to her training, Dr. Fiala received board certification in family medicine through the American Board of Family medicine (ABFM). The American Board of Family Medicine is a non-profit, independent medical association of American physicians who practice in family medicine and its sub-specialties.
Family medicine is a medical specialty within primary care that provides continuing and comprehensive health care for the individual and family across all ages, genders, diseases, and parts of the body. The specialist, who is usually a primary care physician, is named a family physician.
Outside his professional commitments, he enjoys fishing, boating, bible study, service projects, reading, singing, and Chesapeake Bay conservation.
