Dr. Anish Kadakia is a fellowship trained orthopedic surgeon who is a Professor of Orthopedic Surgery at Northwestern Memorial Hospital that specializes in the surgical treatment of the foot and ankle including ankle ligament reconstruction, ankle replacement, trauma, Achilles ruptures, sports injuries, and deformity correction. He focuses treatment on the whole patient, trying to understand the patient’s needs and concerns, along with the orthopedic condition in order to create a treatment plan..
Upon graduating with his Bachelor of Arts degree from Northwestern University in 1996, Dr. Kadakia went on to earn his medical degree from the Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine in 2000. He followed up with a residency in orthopaedic surgery at McGaw Medical Center of Northwestern University in 2005, and a fellowship focused on orthopedic foot and ankle at Mercy Medical Center in 2006.
Subsequent to his education, he attained board certification in orthopaedic surgery through the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery (ABOS). The ABOS is an organization with the goal of establishing educational and professional standards for orthopaedic residents and surgeons as well as evaluating the qualifications and competence of orthopaedic surgeons.
In addition to being a Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (FAAOS), Dr. Kadakia is a member of the American Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Society and the American Orthopaedic Association.
With a strong commitment to education, he has written over 30 book chapters, published nearly 100 review and peer reviewed articles. He continues to be invited both nationally and internationally to educate fellow orthopedic surgeons. He has also had the honor of being a guest professor and performing surgery in China, Qatar, and India. He is engaged in charity work as well through Steps2Walk with mission trip to Namibia in December. Additionally, he has helped to build schools in India, water systems for school in Bangladesh, works with Meals on Wheels locally to support the community.
Dr. Kadakia employs what he researches to be the most effective orthopaedic treatment modalities, both nonoperative and surgical to improve the function and pain of his patients. He believes in advancing the field of foot and ankle orthopaedic surgery and has been on the forefront of developing new surgical techniques to help improve the quality of care that surgeons are able to deliver. His has co-authored a book with Dr. Mark Myerson on Reconstructive Foot and Ankle Surgery in 2019. New techniques and improvement in technique and technology will be included in the next edition that he is currently working on.
